hey, its totally achieveable, but the prep work has to be spot on, otherwise you'll just be making more work for them.

my build total is on about $2000, and did a hot engine, interior and hot wheels/tyres, no paint yet

stay away from ebay, talk to your local mini club members and ausmini ppls for parts.

are you going to retain the "OH FUDGE" colour?

We were quoted for the traveller if we had it striped($1,500) panel and paint (very little panel work needed)$8,500.
And we thought that was a good price. Quoted by a resto guy for concurse work $19,000.

Sorry doorlady - not quite sure I understand what you mean - the same guy quoted you $1500 if it was stripped and ready for paint, and he also quoted you $8,500 if he did the lot?? And the concourse dude quoted you $19,000!!!!!!!!!

Wow - the first option sounds pretty good. Which one did you go with?

Good advice spaceboy - but when I get on eBay and see all of those beautiful NOS parts I just can't help myself!!

Absolutely, 100% original "OH FUDGE" - I even intend to just get it done in Acrylic as opposed to 2pak. This may sound crazy but I want it to look EXACTLY as it did when it rolled out of the showroom....not better. If that makes any sense.

I definatley intend on posting an "wanted" ad here on ausmini soon. The list will be a mile long though :(

Chris - you're a freak mate. Thanks heaps. Addys on it's way.

I'd keep at him, it would have suited your car. Looked in good nick too.

If he's out there and reading this .... I WANT THAT MINI!!!!!! LOL

Seriosly though - as good as it would be I'd still end up getting the seats and doors re-trimmed so that they're exactly like what I had with the dot pattern fabric throught the centre of the seats and on the doors- but would definitely be a good start. <SIGH>

Friggin PISSES ME OFF that I even should be thinking of doing this crap to my car!!!! Sorry, still very very bitter

Besides - I think most here on ausmini just about talked him out of selling it :(

;)

Sorry Brown Clubman : I think my husband who can't spell for crap, meant

We got quoted $1500.00 to have the Traveller bead blasted.

Then to have it Panel and Painted it would cost $8500.00 Which we thought was a good price considering a Resto guy quoted us Concourse finish of $19,000.00.

Which would you do?????

Assuming I had that kind of budget and inclination I'd be going with the $8500 option. But sweet mother of Jesus I just aint got that kina mooooolah kickin around ;)

$8,500!!!! That is my entire budget .... thank GOD I don't even have to think about touching the engine. We got it going yesterday and I nearly cried!!! Apart from the fact that it doesn't have a muffler it sounded just beautiful - with my head in the engine bay!!! Didn't miss a beat once we got it going. I have the original muffler (brand new still) sitting in my garage ready to go on - the original owner (RIP Bert) had a "sporty" stainless exhaust put on from new and kept the original god bless him. And thankfully it got passed along to all owners including me!!!

Can you move to Melbourne and paint my car for me!!!!!! LOL!

Thanks Chris. I love those photo's dude. They give me hope!!

My moto when restoring my baby is "not better than new". That's not the finish I'm after. Not that I can't appreciate a beautiful 2pk (or whatever) respray. I just know what I want for my clubby. And I reckon OH FUDGE just wouldn't look the same in 2pak.

brown clubman, if you want to go to the trouble of prepping a car fully for a respray and beleive you've got the skills to do so, you'd be better off applying the colour coats as well.

honestly there really isnt too many workshops around anymore who are willing to do complete resprays and the ones that do won't really want to touch one that is "ready to go" and most panel shops dont even have a complete acrylic laquer paint system anymore or painters willing to paint with it.

i did the body work and R & R on this 850 for a longtime customer of ours back in May this year, the owner had it repaired for hail etc a few years ago at another shop and the paint had already started to break down even though he looks after his cars well. I ended up repairing more body work than we charged for as if you genuinely charged by the hour NO ONE is prepared to pay you for it.

the bill on this one was just shy of $4000 which did include some new rubbers etc the paint side alone was $2200 and as our painters are contract painters this is the amount they would only do it for, this wasnt a complete bare metal job, some necessary rust repairs, re-repairing of some damaged areas that weren't done first time around and a whole lot of tidying up of the rest of the car including replacing a lot of rusted out bolts and screws and getting panels to line up correctly.

I did this one pretty much because i love minis.......and the customer has been spending money with us for 20years and is a really nice bloke. THERE REALLY ISNT ANY PROFIT IN DOING THIS KIND OF WORK FOR A WORKSHOP FULL STOP. The only reason my boss took on the job was because i was prepared to do the R&R and repairs and get it ready for the paintshop.

the paint and materials alone for most resprays will be close to $1200 using a quality paint system like Glasurit, PPG etc

Only really two ways to have your car resprayed for $1200 and expect it to last........

Do the entire job yourself, theres plenty of guys on here who have painted their own minis (all with differing opinions on whats right) who can offer you advice...............or be really good mates with a painter who has a relaxed boss.
