well think about it bro.

our GTi or starlets run well under the 10 per 100km

like mine is down in the 5 per 100km

rotary?s are up there it might be something to think about with the petrol prices we have at the moment.

Im sorry didn?t mean to spam

OK, do some reading on that too, torque means crap **** all at the engine, it gets converted at the gearbox, and then again at the differential, and then again with the rolling diameter or the tyres.

Acceleration is proportional to hp. The only reason people talk about torque is because usually the engine with the good low end torque will also be good at making hp in the lower end of the revrange, but just remember the car can always be geared lower to make up for those sort of problems.

12.5L/100kms is bad

isnt HP just a calculation of TORQUE anyway? i think you've got it all in reverse

HP=torque x RPM /5250 I think. Or something like that.

I've you've ever ridden an old school 2-stroke then you work out that torque matters.
Those things only make decent torque in narrow "power band".

So if you are riding below that band, then acceleration can really suck. UNLESS you change down quickly, OR fan the clutch.

Now if you are a very skilled rider then you can manage to keep the motor in that narrow rev range all the time to good effect. But your mate on the torquey 4-stroke doesn't have to work as hard, and if you're not on the ball will pull away from you.

Even the mighty Mick Doohan took a lot of years to come to grips with the old mighty peaky and mightly powerfull (200BHP+) 500cc 2-strokes. With advances in things like power valves etc. modern two strokes are much better.

Having said all that, there is nothing like riding an old-banga. That feeling of no torque down low, then that almighty arm stretch and sideway rear end as that expansion chamber starts to resonate. Rev it out before you change so it stays in the power after the change. Big grin. And that two stroke blue smoke smell... they were the days.

Yeh I had a Suzuki GT250 Hustler. 6 speed. Redlined from 8K-9K but that's where the power was... 6th gear was a waste of time unless you had 9K up in 5th first.

I used to tune a few R100s..... 8)
We thrashed one one night (and my Fiat 124S) from Dural out to Hampton (near Jenolan). He beat me there by 100M... next morning we filled both, I had got 29MPG, he got 13!

Think 12.5l/100km is bad !
I once owned a 13b webbered Bridgeport Rx3 coupe that drank around 21 - 24 ltr/100km    and the car was in tune driving normal with the occasional bootful.
