I believe the last of the Italian Minis (made by De Tomaso) got fitted with a Daihatsu 3 cylinder Charade donk, I think there was a diesel too. Might fit in there easier than you expect..

Kev Mate!! I helped my eldest daughter by a 3cyl Charade a while back and I am currently responsible for all maintenance. Great little engine, loves to rev, but would not pull the skin off a rice custard!!

The 4 cyl/1.3 litre on the other hand would be every bit as good as a GT1 conversion. Much better to stick with the A Series and all the go-faster bits available IMHO. Well. OK VTEC Honda is a possibility as well for anyone not limited by funds!

Yeah well.. I meant to add, there's a turbo version of the 3 cyl Charade that makes 100HP stock, 130 is easy, people have got it to 200... :P

kazjim has a turbo off one, on his 998 turbo Mini, and it hauls ass... 8)

the only hassle with a mini is it has a distinct note and you would know if something was changed

Yeah, they were called Q Cars when I was a lad!

Something I have always been interested in - although the Europeans have gone a little too far by de-badging every thing on the road!!

Don't yu get those funny looks and "Gee I didn't know you could get Mini Autos"

I suppose a Q Car to me is more like the Simca Aronde with the hot holden six I knew of all those years ago, Morrie's with Cortina engines or the kid in my Suburb with the old 244 plain jane Volvo with a quad cam Toyota V8 under the bonnet and lots of whirring belt noises coming from under the bonnet!!

Mini 's to me will always have difficulty being Wolf in Sheeps clothing because people expect them all to go like stink and around corners like they are on rails....... :?

No I get the looks like `WTF is that Mini auto so fast???!'

Heh it ain't auto anymore..

I knew a guy who had a Simca Aronde with a early Nissan Silvia donk in it, another who had a MK3 Ford Zephyr with a 283 Corvette and T10 box.. 60MPH in 1st gear..!:P

I am currently going down the EP82 road at the moment. Currently dismantling the halfcut. I went the Starlet GT because finding full halfcuts of GTi's was proving impossible and because most had many kms on the clock.

Still have a look www.mpdesign.id.au and maybe my research will answer some of your questions...

Cheers

I remember seeing a short clip of a 3cyl (possibly turbo) Clubbie keeping up with a 5.0 Mustang at a 1/4 race in the US. Very impressive. If I can find the site or clip I will post.

Cheers

Matt
