Pulled the plugs out of my employer's LS today to see why `it won't start'. They were all black as.. from people over-using the choke to get it in & out of the factory.
So, I used DrMini emergency tip #1-
Light oxy (or blowtorch), heat the biz end of plug gently until centre electrode insulator is nearly red. All the crud on it just vaporizes away.. :P
Started 1st kick too....... 8)

yeah!! both ways work well. when i was at school I gave my mate a set of my plugs to clean on a wire wheel, and he melted all the tips off them. :shock:

Folklore has it that a wire wheel should never be used to clean plugs. It leaves steel wire particles embedded in the insulator which can cause the plug to fail....

Wouldn't you stop at the first one after stuffing it up?

Anyway very fine steel wool works aswell.

Hmmm.......all these tricks that you know - you should write a book and sell on AUSMINI and make some $$$$$'s it would be full of the stuff that just isn't in the workshop manuals etc.

i normally just use a file, then a little file for the tip of the electrode and the curvey arm thingy that goes over the electrode, making the gap

These 4 plugs' insulators were black as, covered in so much crap, oil and fuel that not one would fire.. :shock:
After `the treatment' they looked new!
Still gotta pull the head off it next week- compression is pretty low on one lung... the doctor has diagnosed a burnt valve... :lol:

I cut up File Cards on a band saw into long (handled) plug cleaners. So what you end up with is a mini wire brush about 1.5cm wide and say 15cm long.

To get down around the ceramic insulator I use a small Jewelers Screwdriver.
