A mate of mine had a young bloke living next door to him that had a motorcycle (2 stroke) that he used to start up at 6.30 every morning and rev it up for ten minutes before riding off. After a couple of months he killed the bike and bought a HX Kingswood with a 308. He still did the same warming up procedure as he did with the bike, start it up and rev it up till it was hot!
My mate was getting pretty peed off with him and he asked me if I could think of anything to do to make the noise stop.
Jokingly I told him to go into next door about during the night and pop the bonnet, cut the bonnet cable, cut the throttle return spring, run a hotwire to the coil and close the bonnet........

He rang me up and told me that it worked a treat!

I generally always warm my car up. I don't have the excuse that I'm running late because I live in Canberra
I found in winter as long as I warmed it up for 3 - 5 minutes then the gears wouldn't crunch when I drove down the street (a problem with slightly thicker oil when it is cold, or something like that!) and then I'm gentle on the changes, especially not to have to change down gears until it is warm. I don't have to until I've at least left my suburb so it is okay. And then I double de clutch anyway but still....

I tend to make sure my motorbike is properly warmed up off the choke, since it is only air cooled anyway and I'd hate for it to seize or something
