As long as it has the passing 'Australian Standards Sticker' on it.

You can use helmets that meet other standards as long as those standards are listed in the CAMS manual.
My helmet does not have the Australian Standard sticker, it has the "Snell" sticker. (SA2000)
Snell is one of the international standards for helmets. They have labels like the M95 or M2000 and the SA95 or SA2000. The "M" stands for "Motorcycle" but they are suitable for car use and the "SA" stands for "Special Application" which is Motorsport.

I have been told by a friend to be carefull of the "FIA" approved helmets. They can be used in all motorsport events but they may not meet the independent "Snell" standards. It seems that the FIA has lowered the standard so that F1 drivers can have lighter helmets, even if they can fail in a major accident.

For more info on helmet standards see the Snell website

Hey meeni, the Gippsland Car Club is having a hillclimb on Sept 25 down here in Morwell.

Maybe you can make your way down and have a look as there are usually a few Minis show up on the day.

If you can make it to Morwell, I'd be glad to show you the ropes Sean. I'll be running my Cooper 'S', look out for number 64. As Smokie mentioned, there's usually a few Bricks running and spread out over a range of classes (Historics, Improved Production, Sports Sedans) depending on their level of modification. If you bring your Mini down we could go over it and plot the way forward.
I wouldn't worry about a race suit yet. I only wear mine when it's compulsory (such as tarmac rallying and circuit racing) or on stinking hot hillclimb days when you can get around in shorts and t-shirt then throw the race suit on just before getting into the car.
Hill climbing is a great way to get into motor sport, it's relatively inexpensive, 40 year old Minis are still competitive, and nobody but you, is going to side-swipe or damage your car on the track.

I better not mention the big tires we have on the side of the track at Morwell then Curley...

Morwell is about 140km east of Melbourne on the Princes Hwy.
To get to the 'Gippsland Park' hillclimb track take the first exit to Morwell off the Princes freeway and follow that into the town. Turn left at the roundabout after the KFC into Latrobe Rd and follow that northwards out of town for 5 or 6 kms. You can't miss the track, it's well signposted on your left.

Sorry to tell you meeni but there are not very many hillclimb tracks left if Victoria (I think there are only 4 left, Morwell, Maffra, Rob Roy and Mt Leura) and if you want to get into the sport, then you are going to have to travel to get to them.

In fact, the Gippsland Car Club hillclimb track is the most used track in Victoria and with a move to a new venue happening next year sometime, it's the only one that is expanding.

In my experience no one should live near any motorsort facility as getting there is half the fun. I used to travel 2 hours once a month to race, still do but a bit less often these days.

Mt Tarrengower isn't far from you Meeni, I used to go occasionally with dad cos it's a relatively short drive from Ballarat, (correct me if I'm wrong) the hillclimb is historics, so minis are about the newest things in it, some great old open wheelers run there, well worth a look, and a wander around the carpark too
