Not so fast Aaron, we're hoping to have our Traveller restored by then. What a sight we will all be. It will be the battle of the Commercial, Vans and Pickups.

Ps we just hijacked this thread, o'well.

I think I understand where your coming from Ice. It can be disheartening when your have aspirations to show your car when you see the bar raised so high you think it is unreachable to ever get your car that good. But it has only inspired me to aim higher again. Seeing both Jan's and Ron's cars in Melbourne taught me a valuable lesson on what is required as far as standard of finish I need to get in my vehicle and I aim for that standard or better in every little bit I do to it.

A class of their own? - No, i disagree, my car is in their class, I'm just several years and some $$'s behind them

Ok this is going to sound harshish, Ice what your saying sounds like your pissed off and its not fair on the MCC and Ausmini that you come hear and load this crap out, what Jan and Ron have are not ''Super'' Modified there bloody Mod's like the rest, if you wish to go on with this sort of restoration or build this is how good you need to make it, there the best two cars in the nation at the moment, and i think its awesome that they came up to show us what they have and what level of effort it takes to win,

There is no need for a extra class, you wanna mod a car, get to that level,

Im with MCC on this one and if i was a judge and you stated that I would say mate, spend the money and effort if not take a few bits of and enter another class,

I dont agree with many MCC things, but fair is fair they choose the best cars to win that class, evry detail and every part was covered and time was spent on building these machines

As for trophy hunting go piss off, Jan should get a trophy for most passionate owner, she is such a dedicated sole when it comes to Mini's speak with her learn something, Mini's and the scene is not just about showing your pride and joy, its meeting others catchig up and having a laugh, they come up here to meet new faces and see old, not just for trophy's

I cant beleave theres someone with a more attitude then me on here, nice to take the heat off me

I didn't have anything to Do with the organisation of the event this year, but I think the day was a huge success.

As with any large group of people - especially in a competitive environment - it is IMPOSSIBLE to keep everyone happy.

It's easy to just come onto a public forum Anonymously and take pot-shots, but if you really care, or want to see something changed, then why not come along to a club meeting and voice your opinion in person. Offer to help out with the running of the event.

To be honest, I disargee with your assesment, but that's your opinion and this is mine. The so called "Super Modified" cars have just as much right to enter the show as anyone. If you had poured your heart and soul (and probably mortgage!!!) into your car and driven it interstate to show everyone wouldn't you want to enter?

As far as having a seperate catergorie, this may be an idea for the future. Entries had almost doubled from last year - so the club can only go on past entry lists when making catergories, but like I say, if you have some ideas, feel free to step up at a meeting and present them!

as long as judging is fair on the day you cant complain if beaten by a better car.
I dont get my hackles up at cheque book minis as its just unfair that people can throw the money at it to get it to class A winning standard but if you want a new class then DIY should be the class you should enter as long as you have done most of the mods yourself then you shouldnt have a problem.
we have a mini nationals over here every year and everyyear this compaint comes up because the nationals are held by different clubs around the country and each of them have there own idea about how they should run it well i hope this year they get a formula and a set of rules to follow every year from now on so people can put there cars into the desired catagory they have built them for.

original, restored, diy, modified, etc etc different years.
I just think its a touch of sour grapes when your level of hard work is not quite as high as someone elses (also bank balance is not as big).

I LOVE the idea of a DIY class!!!! Nice thinking Jai!!

There are lots of people who do it all themselves to save a dollar or 2. They should definitely get some wrap for their effort.

Maybe a comittee member on here can take that suggestion on board and relay it to the organisers? I will do it if I can have a contact name / number / email addy?!?

I can relate to those people who have stated here that they feel that they can never win against certain cars.

Several years ago I bought a 1973 MK III UK mini was which the first round nose mini I had owned. I loved (and still love) this mini. It was green back then and was the ugliest thing you had ever seen. But it was mine and I had big dreams for it.

As time passed I slowly replaced lots of bits on the car (money permitting) and eventually had to replace the tired 1100 with a bigger engine (the one it (mutant) has now, only not shiny). I slowly had replaced everything in the car. The only thing that was left from when I bought it was the shell just about. I had bought a second hand interior (seats and door trims), second hand mags, installed a stereo system, new carpet, and painted the engine bay black when the engine went in. Lots of you will remember this from pics at Minis At The Mill where we have visited for several years.

Anyway, as it was a UK import I had to enter the "import" category at shows. This meant I was against the two minis from Vic. which were 2000 or 1999 Rover models. I didn't stand a chance. But did that stop me entering my car and handing over my money. NO!!!!!! And anyway, that's not what you enter a car show for. You don't enter expecting to win. Yes, it's nice to have your car on show and have people say nice things about it. After all we do a lot of work on them. I'm sure you all agree on that.

Well, mutant evolved because the car became was showing signs of rust down the seams and we wanted to paint it before it got any worse. IT WAS NEVER BUILT AS A SHOW CAR. If it had of been built as a show car, the underneath would not be black. There are lots of things you can do if you build a "Show car" which you can't do if you are going to drive the car. I had to make choices because the car was going to be driven. I wouldn't classify it as a "Super Modified". It has a 1380 engine but not fancy go fast stuff. It was built by Henry Draper and his staff way back and was built for everyday reliable driving which it did for several years before it was transplanted. It didn't have anything done to it when we moved it over as far as mods go, just made to look pretty. My dream was to have a shiny engine bay just like those I used to see in the UK Mini Mags. I showed Henry a pic and said "thats what I want". It wasn't easy as I knew nothing about which parts of the engine you could have all of these Shiny processes done to. It was trial and error.

The other statements here about having big $$$'s. Well that's not entirely true either. Those of you that know me know that I don't have lots of $$$'s. I have said it before and I'll say it again, if Henry Draper hadn't helped me with this car I would never have had it. He allowed me to spend time at Northern Mini Parts when he owned it and was so patient with me. I was guided by his knowledge on many aspects of the car. You can pour many thousands of dollars into a car, but that doesn't mean it's going to come out looking any good. The people you choose to have work on your car are obviously going to make a huge difference. Your choices of trim, paint, and everything on the car can make or break it. Not how much money you have.

mutant has stone chips and showing signs of general wear and tear as do all minis that are driven. I have further dreams for mutant but at the moment they are on hold.

As far as the shows go, maybe we could please everyone by not having any judging. Would people still come if the clubs held "Display Days"?

Well I'm going to get back to work now. I have to earn some of those big $'s that everyone seems to think I have. What with the cost of petrol for two and a half minis to drive to Sydney for the weekend to see some old friends and the food for the trip and accommodation Friday night in Albury I need to earn some more back. Thanks to Makka and Tracey for letting us stay while we were in Sydney this obviously helps with the cost. Also minimonaro and wife Dana for coming down to see us again. Your spot on about meeting up with old friends and meeting new ones. That's what it's all about.
