hey i just found a pretty good looking helmet on ebay, but it is usa DOT approved, and the DOT sticker is not on there, does this matter? cos its really cheap and looks like a good helmet.

My advice is NEVER buy a used helmet. You have no way of knowing it has not been dropped and therefore been rendered useless to the naked eye.
How much is your head worth to you?

Unless there is evidence in the form of an Australian Standards AS1698 sticker or other stickers like: Snell SA90, SA95, SA2000; or SFI Spec 31.1, 31.2, 31.1A, 31.2a; or SIS 88.24.11(2) orDS 2124.1 orSFS 3653 or DNS/OMK or NFS 72305 or E22 (with 02, 03, 04 or 05 ammendments) or BS6658-85 Type A and A/FR then you're wasting your money. Scrutineers check helmets at every event and if it doesn't have evidence of compling with the standards above you might as well fill it with dirt and grow daisies in it.

Mate for club motorsport like that, I bought a brand new open face motorcycle helmet for about $60.

Once I start higher level racing (rallying or the like) I will upgrade, but for the low speed stuff that is fine I reckon. Aus Standards sticker and everything - perfect and cheap.

if you go to Revolution Racegear a CAMS approved, open face helmet will cost about $600.

Get the car going first.

Well My full face motorbike helmet cost me less than $100

They all conform to the Australian Standard, and sure, I'd want a good one for circuit racing or rallying, but for the odd hill climb and motorkhana the cheapies will do me just fine. 8)

A lot of drivers wear a racesuit and full faced helmet but not many tinlid drivers use gloves as they are just an expense that isn't needed.
