Just came back from Castle Hill with the new Pulsar dizzy in the car and the old Lucas one in a double black bag which I took out of the boot with heavy gloves and a six foot pole and hid at the far corner of the garage surrounded by a line of white chalk, silver crosses and garlic, lots of garlic.
Anyways this dizzy mod (or rather conversion) is briliant and surprisingly so. I always tried to defend Lucas from the Lucas bashers and advocated some attempts at originality, but here its hard to argue any other way. This setup is far superior to anything Lucas produced, even to those expensive Aldon electronic distributors. The car was behaving like a dog for a few weeks now but on the way home the feeling was like heroin (not that I ever tried, here see my veins). I felt like I've got not several extra hps but like a dozen plus and an improvement across the entire band. Well when I calmed down and strarted testing her on the fairly empty streets (10pm, long way from C'Hill to Coogee) in low, mid and high range I realised that part of the increase was just a self induced euphoria from driving the girl again, the car was still a mini but there was a SIGNIFICANT, IMMEDIATELY NOTICEABLE improvement and funnily enough all the way from 2,500 to 6,500. The car obviously needs more tuning and had gerky acceleration, I never encountered real traffic conditions (even though I tried simulating them), night driving is also different to daytime and she was too cold the whole way ( I know it sounds unlike a mini but it does happen) but you can still feel like if not a whole new beast then one which had a nice hairdo and shaved some of the fur on her legs and is much more attractive and feminine though you will still get dirty and tired. Especialy if your Lucas is tired and wobbly (arent they all) this is a worthwhile fix and in terms of build it feels much more solid, theres no wobble in the spindle like in all the Lucas units and much more springiness).
Now I said it before and I'll say it again my mechanics (Mini Spares and Repairs in Castle Hill) are great. I dont usualy do this lame stuff but seriously they offered to come in way after hours to unlock the place when my tow truck ran late so I wouldnt have to leave the car in the street. They are willing to spend tons of time on the phone or in person discussing problems I've got with the car and the best ways to solve them and they are always genuinly concerned not just booking time to charge you. Tonight after picking up the car at 5pm I stayed infront of the garage to replace my fan (too cheap and broke to pay them to do it) and it being a bitch of a job and I missing a bit of my finger at the moment was taking a long while and both Gareth and Ivan came out to check I was alright and didnt need anything. Ivan stayed and helped me out saving me the need to take out the radiator and lent me tools and Gareth phoned me at like 12 at night to see the car was alright and the new dizzy was working.
Again I know endorsements sound lame but there was a guy there today (not gonna name anyone) who is one of the many people whom a certain Brookvale retailer screwed and promissed to call again but never did

I'm just lucky I've got decent mechanics and decent people working on my car.
