I'm in the process of restoring my 77 Leyland Mini S and am researching information about genuine factory paint procedures. This request may sound a bit wacky but I'm obviously pretty fussy about how I want the car to look when finished.

The car was stolen about 8 weeks ago and the theif completely painted it in white "house paint" - not to mention that they completely stripped the interior and exterior, wheels, bumpers etc.

I'd like to have my mini re-painted in the original colour "Oh Fudge - paint code 15575 Dulon" according to the original factory specifications and instructions as stipulated by Leyland.

Would anyone here know where I can get my hands on the geniune Leyland factoty specs/procedure used to paint the minis before they came off the line?

surely ifyou gte it stpayed at somewhere decent it will be the same? somewhere like a-grade panels in heidelberg would be able to do something for you, you're in melbourne yeah?

The original Dulon was an acrylic paint which paint shops won't like the idea of. As far as they are concerned there is too much work involved spraying acrylic. They like two pack paint, as it comes off the gun shiny and they don't have any hand finishing to do. No matter which method is used it is gunna be exy.

i think they were rotor diped not sure bout 77 though

Anonymous moderation means the agro that is built up towards the mods isn't aimed at an individual (fewer "Makk" attacks). Less stress for mods means less moderator "retirements".

Rota dipping was only done for the rustproofing/undercoat. I don't think the minis were rota dipped, only the 1100 & 1800.

They were all rotodipped, including the Minis, right up till Zetland closed down and they moved the Mini production to Enfield (1974/75)
The rotodip was the under coat and the top coat was sprayed.

All the `70s Minis were acrylic. Some were Dulux (Dulon), some were Berger, some were Spartan. It was hailed as great stuff back then, but was later found to be far less durable than the baked enamel used in the 60s. Many older Minis have original enamel and it still looks sweet.

Goes to show how memory fails us. They sure rusted well for all the efforts put into them. Remember the sticker that was on the back window of some cars advertising Rota Dip? I recall it not being on the Minis at all, only the bigger cars.
