And the carb - it might be affected by the crack (even though its sealed and I dont reckon there;s any leakage from there) and it wont work without the choke in. I had the throttle screw all the way in and the mixture screws in all their possible positions (and the engine warm) but without the choke being out (and the carb making that hissing sound) it would just start flattering and spitting below the 1000rpm and dies out. I never worked with dellortos/webers before so dunno what the problem is.

And sorry for all the whinging and questions boys but I really need help here.

Apart from air leaks, I'd check what emulsion tubes are in it. It came off a Ford crossover manifold... could have anything in there.
Mine is still running 7772.6 emulsion tubes. Your 145 mains and 180 air correctors should be OK to start with on either Lynx or Redline manifold.

It's for the 1098 that i am putting in the red one. Yeah it could do with a clean, but it is mostly oily gunk that should come off easily

That manifold looks OK, you could see thru it (my rule of thumb...) 8) it's not a real Lynx `gooseneck' model which forced the air to navigate 2 bends tighter than 90*.

Amazing what gunk a can of Nulon throttle body cleaner will take off. :P

Nope the tubes are alright, I've checked them when taking the carb apart and they're #6.

Thanks for the pics dude, the linkage is done - its easy with the redline manifold.

I'm still experiencing strange idle behaviour. She revs fine with the choke but dies out without it even though the engine is hot. I dont rule out an air leak but my idle screw seems very short too. Can anyone tell me the standard lenght of the idle screw on the Dellorto? Could my fuel diapragm stroke be set too short?

Now with a Dellorto if the engine is warm and the revs are falling - what should happen if you pull the choke 3/4 way? Should the engine choke and die out like with SUs or should the revs fly up to like 2.5K? Coz mine is doing the latter (does this suggest an air leak?).

And finaly Doc the mounting base on the manifold is slightly uneven denying the washers a good flat fit. Can I file out like a 1mm of the top just to even and flatten it out or would this affect rigidity too?

Anyone knows of a decent set of LCBs at a good price?

Sorry to steal the thread but I also have a question about Dell'orto chokes. Just connected the choke up last week coz it was being a pain to start in the morning (it isn't tuned quite right so that doesn't help). When I was working on the car on the weekend, I had the choke out and noticed a very air-leak noise, only present when the choke was out and disappeared with no choke. What's the deal?

Anto.

The `choke' on a Dellorto or Weber sidedraft is a separate carb circuit on it's own, the hissy sound is normal. Not a choke as you know it on normal carbs.

re the idle screws- there are 2 types. Early ones had a spring round them like on ausminis4u's pics above, later ones were recessed and have a VERY fine thread. Try to keep dirt etc away from the screw tops, and be careful you don't bruise them with the screwdriver..

Idle mixture screws (2) are on RH side of Ben's first yellow pic, with the springs on them. Unlike a Holden etc you screw them out for richer, not in.
