Anyone have any experience with selling minis via online auction? Is this a good way to sell?

Sadly, kids and a new business means its time to find a new home for my Mini collection - '65 Cooper S (Car 671), a '67 Cooper S (for parts) + a massaged Cooper S motor + several front ends etc. etc.

Just how successful (for buyers and sellers) are auctions like ebay, or set sale sites like minimania etc? Which is best? Is it best to split collections or sell as one lot?

what condition are the cars in? I'd guess you'd be much better off selling them separately... assuming they're all genuine, the 65 might be anywhere from $10K to $20K depending on its condition, the parts one $5K to $8K depending on how complete or restorable, and the motor $1500 to $3k depending on how complete it is. I doubt you'd get as much if you sold them all together.

There's been a few on ebay lately and no-one seemed too interested in putting bids on at a realistic price. I reckon try for sale sections on most of the mini clubs around australia, or the forums like here and minimania. maybe even check out exporting to US or UK if you want top-dollar.

junk sells well on ebay, quality doesn't....go figure.

Sell the good one at a fixed price in a paper or trading post, and flog the junk on ebay.

Geoff - Working out value is difficult! That's why I though of the auctions!

I certainly hope the 65 is genuine - I spent 18 months finding one that I could verify. The first 500 cars have some distinctions so I could use these to match numbers, age and characteristics. The cars not perfect (older restoration) but I'm pretty certain its genuine.

The 67 was a wreck - found enginless in a cow paddock in NW Tasmania. Bloody sad but what a find - ruined my wifes holiday towing it home again! The body (complete with compliance plate) was really marginal and in the end we broke it up for parts - yes, I know, this is possibly classed as a criminal act! The motor/box/carb unit, disc front ends, spare carb sets etc., I got separately from various places - I enjoy the collecting!

Yep, if you are located across Bass Strait that could severely effect your ability to sell and the keeness of some buyers

Yep, I'm located way down here in sleepy Hobart - not easy viewing but I guess that's why there are still lots of automotive treasures to be found down here. Good idea about the show but too late for me to get across the ditch. Also I'd need a truck if I was to bring all the other gear across.
