Does anyone in SYD that lives close to me have a socket to fit the nut that holds a standard clubman steering wheel? I don't know what size it is, but it's pretty damn big! I can measure it tonight if no one knows off teh top of their head.

I will be refitting my column next weekend and want to crack the nut before I fit the column. I will be fitting a sweet as leather SAAS wheel when the interior starts going back in.

I've got one - can't remember the size. I know it cost a bundle. If you don't hear sooner I'll take a look tonight and let you know.

Cant remember the size but the exact socket just went on Ebay for like 8-12 bucks. I've got a vintage Abingdon flat wrench that expands to that size and well beyound, and fits in the boss perfectly and works for me every time. You can borrow that if you wanna (I'm a bit of a freak in the mini community though by being located in the E.suburbs , but I might be in W.Sydney in the next few days).

Cheers Mike. I note you go to MS&R in Castle Hill occasionally. I am a stone throw from there. All I need to do is crack the nut before fitting the column. That way I can replace the steering wheel later on quite easily.

I *think* it is a 1,5/16" socket, a la CV nut on discs? Or it's the other big mutha socket I've got, one of em fits. They are pretty damn expensive, especially when you want a 1/2" - 3/4" drive convertor to go with it.

yea it sure is a big mother nut for a lil car My old Holdens never had a steering wheel nut that damn big.

you know how it goes, groove on a hex side, and then whack to loosen

yea that's one of the first things I learnt at TAFE over 10 years ago. I tried it, and it didn't budge! I need the socket.

Oh man, this is ome of those sockets that you will use rarely, but need it when you cant get one...

Do what i did - I went to the dodgey asian markets here in Adelaide, there is a dodgey little toolshop there with buckets of cheap sockets - and you'll never guess what i found in there!!!! Whats more - its for an impact wrench, so its damn strong too!!! Best 10 bucks i ever spent.

I'm sure you'll have a shop like that near you....

If minis are in your blood, you may aswell own the correct toolkit....

33 or 34mm socket will do if you find one cheap. Or even a big ass tube spanner..

I used a 1-3/8" socket for years until I bought a 1-5/16". Steering wheel nut is not real tight anyhow.
