Hi guys my names Daniel, and i'm a commodore nut but my gf is in love with old mini's.
I'm thinking of making it a project for myself to recon one for her just a few questions.

she wouldnt want a manual because she does a lot of city driving. Did the old coopers come in auto versions or would i have to convert it to an auto? is converting one to an auto possible? if so what is involved?

and if anyone has any tips on where to find a mini cooper that needs a bit of recon done to it would you be so kind as to point me in the right direction?

and what are some websites that sell mini parts that i may need along the way?

Thank you all for any help in advance!

Daniel
aka noremac

Daniel, I was a Dunnydore man, but I saw the light, just like you are 8)

Not all old Mini's are Coopers, so you need to know that first up.

The auto's are called Mini Matics, and a few members on here have one, so they would be best to talk them up.

Plenty of OZ and UK based mini websites for parts. Also plenty of businesses in OZ to supply parts. What state are you in? Someone can recommend a supplier or a seller of Mini's if we know your state.

If you are cashe dup, you could go for a Jap Mini import. Late 80's or early 90's auto. Would be good buying with air cond for $10 000+

Good luck mate, once you get in one, you are hooked!

Daniel. Fill in your profile, you will get a lot of guys give you info then (e.g. cars for sale, shops to go to).

There is a section called 'Knowledge Database' (?) on this site. Go there, all the websites in the world.

I'd be checking club websites 'for sale' sections, trading post, etc. (check the knowledge base thread for links to club sites)

Also you can post a 'wanted' thread here on ausmini.com (Under the wanted section of course).

Matics seem to go for cheaper then the manuals from my own past experience. They can be a little harder to find, but not impossible.

there are probably a few threads in these forums about matics, using the search function should dig them up.

lol yeah I was shocked when i found that one out myself. We have actually added a secondary oil filter, which is supposed to filter out a lot finer material then the stock filters. I'll have to take a photo of the setup next time i'm in the garage :)

Greetings Normac and your GF as she is the one with the pashion.
Please fill in your info on the side and you will get more responces from us.
There is a Mini Show shortly in Vic and could be a good idea to take the GF and have a look around and ask more questions with the locals.
You will recieve a number of links from us for dealers in surpliers in Vic and NSW and possible in ADL, but if you keep in good with us there are a number of us who have parts (depending on what they are will release ((cooper S Front Ends Don't As)) or we will lead you in the correct direction.
Keep a check in the forsale section for prospective drives for the Gf and maybe ask the question in thier. Additional check with the Mini Car clubs and possible one from another state (thier is one in QLD at the Moment) on the Site.
One last thing Does the GF like the round Nose or the clubby (QLD good project for sale)

Cheers mate we like to have a bit of fun in here and you may get the pastion also, Common Door are so, passa

Cheers 8)
