Can someone in Adelaide recommend an engine machine shop / builder with experience in offset boring Mini blocks 73.5 mm, asssembling them and dialling in a cam.

Also how much are a set of 73.5 pistons these days and what's around (Hepolite, Powermax, Omega, Mahl ????) . Where to buy them?

For many years I have modifiedMini engines to take Mazda Pistons I have used the ones that fit the TC 1272 engine. These pistins are Ideal especially when building a stroker as the deck height is shorter than the 1275 item. To fit them on the S rods all you have to do is get the Gudgeon hole honed out to fit the S Gudgeon they work very well and start at 73 mm. You will have to measure the desired deck height on the block to the desired Compression ratio. They are also a much lighter piston. I have used up to 74.5 mm in a 1485cc.

Yep, Chris Miltons' did all the head work on my LS. Proof is in the pudding, this thing goes like a cut cat. Rhemac's is good, but its at bloody Gawler

Oh, and you'd better have some deep pockets. Good help is hard to find, let alone pay for.

You can't dial-in a cam yourself? Put a degree wheel on the crank, set a 'zero', Line up the dots, measure 10* Befrore TDC on the cam (Measured with a dial indicator) measure 10* After TDC (on the cam again), and what is in between is what you've got

Trust me, its not really that hard. I got really confused reading the books, but take the book out to the motor wiht you, and do it as you go through the steps, and you'll be done before you know it. Hell, even i can do mine!! :D

Use any of Vizards books. All seem helpful for this bit. I got my Kent 286MD spot-on, according to his specs (2*Advance) 70HP at the wheels from 1293 sure is fun :D

Thanks guys. I've used Milton before for Rover and Mini work. Think I'll try Rhemac this time round - their roots were in Minis (there was a big Mini fraternity around the Gawler district in the mid 70s). Like you say it's a bit of a hike but they are well set up and have heaps of Mini experience.

Looks like Hypertech 73.5 cast pistons from the States may be the way to go part # HPA 1275-115. Anyone used these?

Hypertec pistons are good pistons, handle race punishment without problem. Available in 73mm bore size too. No need to source from US, call Ken Nelson at Mini Automotive in Ipswich, Qld - 07 3281 4255. Use Hastings rings.

I enquired about 73.5 Hypatecs a few weeks back, none about. Maybe by Xmas, Ken says..
GR has none either- 73.0 only.

BTW they are made in Taiwan, not USA (but the Hastings rings are).
