Hey boys,

What do you all think of white bonnet stripes on regular non cooper cars? I know it's a rice thing but (see my avatar) my car has white roof and white wheels, and I think white bonnet stripes would really add to the look.

I was thinking about the vinyl decals from mini spares, they are like 8 pounds and if I dun like em I can pull them off.

What do you think? geeky? try hard?? or good??

I've seen the old time Monaco rally cars, they are red with white roof and white bonet stripes, no flares. Schweet...

EDIT: Oh wait... the monte carlo rally minis didn't have bonet stripes!!! :(

they will match your overall colour scheme quite well, so I say go for it. They aren't rice at all!

The GT stripes up and over a clubby are rice ....IMHO.

What wheels do you have? I am thinking about getting WHITE Superlites now. Would look trick with my red duco! 8)

HOW MINI EARNED ITS STRIPES & COLOURS

A lot of Mini’s features are not known, and the reason for the bonnet stripes and colours are an example.

The Cooper Grand Prix F1 Cars of the 50s and early 60s were painted a very dark green with two white stripes from the base of the windscreen to the air inlet at the front of the car. When the Cooper Car Co won a contract to race Mini Coopers on behalf of the factory they wanted to continue the traditional colours for recognition purposes and so the Minis were painted that same dark green colour and the white stripes become bonnet stripes. The alloy wheel style of the F1 car was also mini-mised into the Minilite style.

The Abingdon-built BMC Works rally cars generally did not run with bonnet stripes as their livery was determined by the colour of previous BMC rally cars of red body and white roof (Austin Healeys, MGs etc).  White stripes on the bonnet had no significance in international rallying. The only exceptions to this were on the odd occasion that rally cars were used in circuit racing where white stripes were sometimes used to identify one Works Mini from another.

No thanks! that's an additional decal that you can buy separately for 4 pounds fifty  but would defeat the purpose as mine is not a cooper... I just think the white roof, white wheels and white stripes would look mint! esp since the new Chilli Red Bini's have the stripes too, I'd market it as, "but these are the real stripes"

Sweet! I will have my stripes to "identify one Strathfield Works Mini from other minis" 8)

Yeah go on, it will differentiate your deluxe from my red and white mini minor, along with the grey primer patches, black flares, zero interior and lack of rego on mine :D

You are in Strathfield eh? I'm in Croydon, but the MM is not  would i see you around and about the area?

Stripes ARE NOT rice. I believe they will add to your colour scheme, without people expecting it to be a go-fast car.

Okay, on the same sort of idea here, how do ya's reckon those bonnet stripes would look on my clubby??

A Grade Panels here in Melbourne sell the white bonnet stripes. They are a bit tricky, curves and so on.

Just get some stripes made up from high grade vinyl from Signarama. All their branches would quote you pretty high prices but the one on Harris st, Ultimo is much cheaper for some reason. Just specify the dimensions based on what you think will look good and a set of stripes (2x 14cmx 60cm approx) shold be under $40. They charge you per sheet so its usualy the same price for any number and lenght of cuts as long as they fit on the one sheet, so you should be able to get several sets as spares for the same price.
