I'd not recommend cheap tyres at all (falkens in particular)... They're awful in wet weather.. You have the be very careful.. I'd spend the little bit extra, for you saftey.

A008's are the go. They cost me $105 fitted at Pats Tyres in Fyshwick. I emailed Yokohama and Christian(Marketing Officer in Sydney)emailed me back straight away saying they have them in stock. easily next day anywhere on the eastern seaboard, 2-3 west. You should get at least 30-40000 km ouot of them with careful driving and rotating.

The SF-229 bridgestones are a good all-rounder too. I put them on Henry in 1999 and only removed them 2 weeks ago(78000km!!)and they still had 20 percent on them. A little hows-your-father in the wet but fantastic in the dry. At $60 a throw you cant go past them if money is an issue - they come in 145/155/165 as well. The downside is you have to methodically rotate them with the spare - they will wear much quicker if you dont. These things were very even when I had them removed and no scuffing of the inner and outer tread.

Treat them well and any tyre will last a long time in other words - blow them up to 34-36 psi and you are giggling.

Hooroo

Yep, I agree A008s if you are after a performance tyre, if $$ is important SF226s are not bad for life and are a good all round tyre. We run them on Barney..
Had Falkens for years- they last forever but in wet weather they are hopeless unless near new.

Damn pity you cant get those oh-so-cool Pirelli P7Fs that are on your car anymore

Please get 195s, not the too-skinny 175s. Much meaner look with the extra width :D

I've had the sf226's on nav since he's been on the road with me which is nearly 2 yrs now. and as much as i hate to say it they aren't a bad tyre if all you do is cruise around and no silly buggers. Only very recently have i rotated the fronts to the rears (yeah i know). The rears were about 75% and the fronts 25% 8)
Probably had something to do with there never being any weight in the back of the van and the fact i like to corner pretty quick. so i figure i'll probaly have another year or two of tread left before i go for some a008's

I've driven the a good mates mini on both yokohamas and falkens and agree with everone when they say they(falkens) can bit a bit of a handful in the wet but every tyre has its limitations.
For the extra $120 ($30extra ea) to put the yoko's on for the whole car it's hard to go past them. even from a safety point of view let alone the handling bonus

Are these 195's in 12's? or do you mean 13's? or..165/12's?

145 best tyre is/was Michelin XZX

165 tyres for everyday use SF-229 Bridgestones, last forever.

165 tyres for a bit of thrashing/grip Yoko 008s or the more expensive 032s

just my opinion
