Has anyone fitted these to there Mini?
Do they work(or just a waste of money)
Any recommended Brand or type to use :?: :?:

Link Automotive (paint and panel, specialises in Mini's) sell one. http://www.agradepanels.com.au/

I don't know anything about them, though.

I have fitted many of these Gadgets to customer's cars, but I have no idea yet if they realy work or not. I will probably be able to tell you more in about 30 years time. A long time ago I read that the Britis made their cars ie the Mini with Positive earth connections for the same reason, to prevent rust. Who knows !!

There have been A Current Affair 'exposes' saying that they are a crock. couldn't say for myself but I very much doubt that they work

By the time you find out if they work or not, you'll have lost the receipt...

Speak of the Devil... I had a broken down Ford Courier ute towed to me today and it has one of these gadgets under the bonnet with flashing LEDs. As soon as I opened the Bonnet in noticed this thing and then I also saw the wiring . How unprofessional !!! and hey, this ute was also full of rust bubbles. Do they work ????? May be the owner of this one thought that if he fitted one the rust will disappear... Who Knows. Not for me I'm afraid. I am an Auto sparkie and I do understand how because of electrical currents flowing through metals corrosion is caused But as far as I believe with the crap and impurities that go in re cycled steel today especially in car pannels not even the "Electric Chair" will kill the formation of rust in our cars. Let alone this silly little box with flashing lights and little probes attached to the body of the vehicle. To some it might look impressive. I will pass on this one.

well like all good things in theory they should work. They polarise the body so that it is negative (thats why cars have negative earth not positive) Oxygen is negative and from science in year 10 like charges repel each other. Like I said its all theory.
Best thing to do is bolt a chunk of zinc to the underside of your car. Sacrificial anode.. like in ships and boat outboards.....
BTW thats why your ally thermostat housing corrodes to buggary, with this new coolant stuff.
If you buy a chromed thermostat housing make sure that the underside is exposed so that it can corrode. Stops important bits in your engine from corroding. Easier to change a 15 dollar thermostat housing as opposed to a water pump

it seems to work theory wise (you will understand if you know a little chemistry)

but practical wise, you need electrodes all over the panel to cover it electrically, so i personally think its a crock

Sacrifical anodes on boats/ships are immersed in water which allows the current set up to flow.
The Cathodic protection industry uses anodes that have a current passed through them for protection of wharves etc. These still use the water to pass the current from the anode to the part being protected.
Long time since I was involved but I think you need your mini comletely immersed for these things to work, then you have a mini-sub

Scott have u lost ur brain? Link automotive dont do any paint and panel work!?

The guys to see are definitely A-Grade panels who scott has given u the addy of, they really push the idea and i know the owner is pretty convinced by it. He's a top bloke and very honest, give him a call even if u dont buy im sure he'll be able to fill you in about it.

These electronic things Might work for some. I have like I said "Fitted a few to customer's cars" but I never supplied them the units themselves as there are many liabilities attached. If they want something fitted I will do it but they buy it elsewhere. I just fit it as per someone else's instructions to their request. Try Fishoil spray it smells a bit for a while but it is one of the best protections I have found. (Have you ever seen a rusty Mullet or a Coral Trout in the ocean ? NO)

But a jetty is not completely immersed it wouldn't be too much use if it was you'd get your feet wet :P

AFAIK the sacrificial anode doesn't have to be in contact with the water it just has to have good contact to the metal you are trying to save :? I don't know if it does or doesn't work in cars, but I can't see why it wouldn't but if it did you would expect cars to come out new with a sacrificial anode  wouldn't you :?:

Has anyone seen a rusty positive earth vehicle. I was told that when we changed to neg is when rust started to happen??????

I have personally seen these things work on a Cruiser 4x4. It had some rust the it was fitted n driven on the beach every weekend and no extra rust was coming through. It was then taken off the vehicle. Boy what a large amount of rust that started to come through.

I have not fitted one to mine yet but we have one on our Prado

Can you tell me some cars that have come out with positive earths?
Possibly the reason that I have not seen one is because they are either too old or have rusted out along time ago....?
