Ok..so i'm heading to Olympic Park Homebush bay heading Nth..so i fill up with petrol from a servo down the road..leave..and for those of you that know the area, there is a flyover that goes over the hume hwy..well as i'm going over that ...'twang!' my throttle cable decides to snap doesn't it

I end up here...
Image

So go to make some calls..no credit...but i had like 30 free TXT available..time to go on a plan next month...

So i msg chong as i was just down the way from his place..waited like 5min and didn't get a response..so at this stage i do a frenzy set of messages out to some of the blokes and brad got in touch with me and i got him to call to chong..to call me..haha 8)

So yea..talk with chong..he comes down..

Hi chongers!
Image

Lillee nearly got creamed by a truck..you can see the width of the little area he was in and the car flying past as i took that pic haha..

So he brought his tools cause i had none (yes..i know.) and we cut back and stripped a bit of the sheathing off to expose more wire..a 7/16th and 11mm removed the rest of the old one and the new one was in 8)

So thanks heaps Chong and Brad :)

A couple of tips....

Make sure that the pedal is on the floor before the throttle is fully opened (99% open) so you are not straining the cable. You will not notice the missing 1%

When the cable breaks you can wind up the idle screws a fair bit and drive to safety/home with no throttle  Be carefull, use the clutch and the key to keep it under control.

What I want to know is how you were going Nth from the olympic park and you went over the hume? 8)

Just a tip with the idol trick. Haveing done this twice before I found that it is better to use the clutch as little as possible. to slow down hit the ignition key. Try your best to time the lights so you don't need to stop. It really is good fun. You haven't driven a mini till you've tried this..

Well this just happened to me.. Coming home from work at 6am this morning.. and my damn throttle cable snapped.. I tried was going to try the idle trick. But having to go up a steep hill with a set of traffic lights in the middle of it, with big trucks driving along that road and not much petrol, I decided against it.

My dad ended up coming to the rescue.. We replaced it with a bike cable and got home safely.

I like changing throttle cables, it's the one time I can afford to go all out and get the most fantastic hopped up, teflon lined, lithium greased, stainless steel push bike brake (breake? ) cable on the shelf at K-mart for 11 dollars. Shorten him up, put the little brass thingy on the new cable and.... et voila!

The one thing on my mini that is top of the line.
