OK, the compressed air powered piston I was going to use is gone,
but this should do the job:

Image

It's a plumbers test pump, commonly known as a "bucket pump"
Size wise, it's roughly as big as 1/2 Carton of stubbies cut the wrong way.
Holds about a bucket of fluid (9L), has a built in check valve & let down valves
is suitable for water, glycol etc and rated for 8,500kPa - about 4x what is needed
(but if you slip a bit of pipe over the handle you can hit 11,500kPa - note the slight bend in the handle)

If you don't own an engineering firm, they can be hired

I will make & post pics of my cheapo connecting fitting in a few days.

Where can I get one without hiring. I hate hiring, I just buy.

Cheers

Any trade plumbing supply place will have them. <edit> Tradelink, Galvins, Blackwoods
The Ridgid brand ones are plastic, but rated for the same pressure/service (we made the stainless bucket on this one)

Sorry, no idea on price, but not cheap$$$

I was just told they're around $454.00. (tradelink) Don't know the details.

Still, not completely unrealistic. Maybe i can find one on ebay a bit cheaper.

Think about a dump valve so that you get rid of the existing fluid and pump in nice clean stuff :D

I have a pump made from a grease gun at the moment, so Before I go to any effort to make a better one, I want to make sure it'll be a big improvement.

Doc, is there any chance of rigging an external reservoir for hydro fluid so you don't need to keep filling the MC??

Cheers
Matt

Easiest way is just mount a funnel (eg 1L oil bottle with bottom cut off)onto the MC. I leave the cap off it while pumping anyway...

Yes you can, but you need a pump.
Do a search here for details on making one.

Fluid is `hydrolastic fluid', can get in 4L tins from www.karcraft.com.au or most Mini places.

It's possible to use 50/50 mix of ethylene glycol & water, but the system needs total draining to do this. Easier to just buy the right stuff.

I've topped mine up in the past using water and coolant mix. Assuming my system has normal hydro fluid should I be topping up with Glycol/metho mix instead.

I'm also going to help pump up a car that has been down for a while. Which mix is better. Is metho glycol closer to bought hydro fluid and more compatible for him in the future. Or should we use proper bought fluid?

Thanks

Mine has mixed fluids in and is working fine. A while back I ran out of Kc's fluid and mixed some 50/50 for it.

If mixing your own, use de-ionised water or distilled water, not the stuff straight from the tap.

Yep I know to use distilled. Just wondered was there any issue of having a mixture.

Thanks Doc

Near the bottom of page 2 is the recipe quoted by the factory. If you can pronounce the ingredient's names perfectly first attempt I'll send you a chocolate frog. :D
