well its weird...coz he could see i was taking the thing apart...so he must have gotten the idea i was delivering a bare shell to him...not stripped...but if he wants it stripped its no probs either...just a matter of getting out the old elbow grease and giving it a good scrub down with some paint stripper :P

dont worry i wont tell him you might not get him to do the paint...i dont think he'll mind anyway...he seems to be rolling in cash :P

as for me the jury is still out on who i want to get the body work done by...as i said...still got a couple more weekends of disassembly before i am at the stage of NEEDING a panel beater anyway...i would prefer people who i know are going to do a FAB job...atleast i've got options available to me...the only time this stuff really bugs me is when i get backed into a corner and have to do something thats either too expensive or not as good as i want...

Try those guys at Stafford.

yeah he's comin over on the weekend to check out the shell...hopefully he's not in a $25,000 mood :P

Dawson Automotive on Wynnum Rd, Tingalpa.

Don't know if you have seen the pics of my car. John painted it. Balmoral Bodyworks did the panelwork.

Recent photos of it here... http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10133&highlight=

From memory John charged $1800 for the prep and paint.

Body work was about $2000-$2500 but they replaced ALL front exterior panels and rear beaver panel. Replacing these panels meant a fair bit of work getting the deseaming to look right.

That's exactly how he treated me. He said "Come back if you can't find anyone else to take it on, but you will have to wait 6-12 months before we can work on it."

Well, i did forget to mention that he has the personality of a door mat...... A good mate of mine went out with his daughter for a few years. Meet the guys wife, then you'll know he is the way he is. Poor bloke.

He just comes accross that way. His work is spot on.

Funny story. Mate gets taken by daughter to meet John for the first time. First thing John says, "Run far....and run fast". Took mate a couple years to work out what he meant. Daughter was a freak.

I don't know what it is like in Brissy but in Armidale(where my mini is) the best panel beaters generally have more work than they can handle so it is very hard to get stuff in to get fixed, my green mini has been in at the panel beaters for the best part of 6 months and I was waiting for 3 - 4 months before that cause he had no where to park it. It should be done soon though :D This wasn't a full respray either just some bits that needed doing, but as the owner is doing the work himself (does restos himself) I thnk it's worth the wait. :D

Comes back to the saying "If you want something done, ask a busy man".

His name is ian...he didnt seem totally uninterested...he told me that since i have a few people lined up to look at the car and give me quotes there's no point in asking him at this stage...and for me to call him when/if i decide i dont wanna go with any of them...

his work does look pretty frickin awesome...hence my initial "ladies and gentleman...we have a winner" comment...i'll just see how all the other guys go and make my decision based on that...i will keep in mind how good his stuff looks though...
