Just wondering whether any of you guys can give me the measurements on a door trim from an 850, thinking of making them myself to save a bit of money.

They aren't square/rectangular, are they? I would recomend you get an original one, no matter the condition, and use it as a template. You got either of the original ones?

I made mine by using the old one for a template then trimming it till it fitted. Then skinned it.

I can help, i just spent a weekend fabricating new door cards for my Delux. I used a piece of cardboard ($1 approx or in my case free), cut it to size and used it as a template. The good thing is you can flip it to fit into the other door as it is a mirror image. I drew the outline on a piece of malamite board (5mm type with one side painted $15 from Bunnings) and cut it out with a jigsaw.

Then filed the corners, marked the holes for window winders etc and bob's your uncle. Now I am making groovy vinyl to cover the cards, you can get this from Clark Rubber for around $14/metre in all colours.

Be careful as my doors were not exactly the same, if you are anal like me and want a good fit then fabricate separate cardboard templates for each door.

I believe the 850 door cards are different to Deluxe ones as they don't have holes for window winders or door handles and they don't have the cutout at the top corner for the door latch.

I am about to embark on the same process with my 68 Deluxe... I have the cardboard, I have the vinyl, I have the time and patience... now.... what glue did you use to stick the vinyl to the wood..??

I am not sure if I need your mother at this stage...I wanted to do the doors in one piece vynyl so no stitching required. I am presuming thats what you meant...

Otherwise if she can cook, clean and do ironing.. maybe I can borrow her for a bit.. ha ha

Spray on contact adhesive

We used this stuff when re-trimming my brothers RX7 door trims and it was nothing short of shithouse

We ended up using qwik grip from memory.......worked a treat and those door trims are goin nowhere.

I had no problems - just used as directed

Spray on - both surfaces - leave to get tacky before bringing thenm together - weight down so the surfaces are under pressure and leave for couple hours.

It's not as though the door card trim is under any great strain normally

yeah that stuff's awesome....a few mates and i used to use it to make fakies ....worked a treat....never got busted either

dont use mdf! i di that with mine and they tend to warp a bit! but they still look sweet as!

Its a shame that mdf is the cheapest alternative. I had the "brilliant" idea of using perpex, but at $60 a sheet for EACH door and for each rear part, I thought that the budget could do with a more relaxed $6 a sheet in total for mdf...
