Just wondering how can I tell if I have a Rod or Remote gear shifter. The Mini is a 1965, with Clubman 1098 engine (was 850) so I'm guessing the gearbox changed. Intending to fit in a quickshift.

If you lift it to get reverse it's a rod change..

Sorry to hijack your thread catzzmandu
but have a quick question which also relates to your question :)..

I know Granny has a rod change box on her as I can lift the gear stick handle as you normally would to put her into reverse..

But the thing is she also goes into reverse without lifting the gear stick..

Any ideas why its still going into reverse without lifting the gear stick?

hmmm... actually my brother did that the other day he really forced it back into reverse with no lifting but used a lot of muscle into it.

Is the shifter sloppy, you cold have ripped the mounts off the floor by forcing it to the right..

Stop lug on baseplate under shifter is worn, or shift lever end is.

Our Clubby was like that. I took the plate off the bottom (4 screws) & welded it where worn. Dressed it up with angle grinder, now good as new!
