Well, as most of you know, I've had to replace the head gasket 3 or 4 times so far this year plus another head. :cry:

Anyway, got hold of a pretty decent 1100 motor which I'm gonna rebuild with new pistons etc etc. etc.

Pulled it apart yesterday and the bores are in real good condition - one of the pistons was worn - where the gudgeon pin goes through - so I'll just get all new pistons. Taking the block in tomorow for a bath and get the top skimmed - make sure she' flat, plus anything else.

My friendly local Mini guy - Bellarine Mini Centre - will be the main surgeon with me assisting. All being well, Ribena will be attending Minis at Mount Cooper and back to 100 per cent. :)

Good luck with the rebuild.
Skimming the block is a good idea, and a little more compression never hurts!

New engine... I like that idea!

As I said, atleast you already have a new head! :lol:

Any performance mods? Something like a cam grind would be great. 8)

Yep Poeee - putting in a different cam. No idea at the moment but Peter says that the difference will be considerable - he's got it at his home. Took the block in today to get acid bathed and skimmed plus new welch (welsh) plugs.

New piston are on the way. The new head is good too, so really the only other things to have a serious look at are the crank and carby. Have to have a look at what Peter has on the shelf at BMC.

Picked up my stuff from the engine reconditioner today

1100 block which is now as clean as a whistle and has had the surface machined and the engine number re-stamped;

Machined cam shaft;

Machined crank;

New pistons;

New bearings; Big end, little end, mains, thrusts and cam

New timing chain;

New oil pump;

And now for the rebuild :D :D :D :D

This sounds great, good luck with it. If you get the chance, how about posting some pictures up of the rebuild / shiny new parts? :)
Cheers,

Know it VERY well. Mine is done and waiting on the hoist to become available to transplant henrys new heart. Just the cosmetic things now(painting Tappet covers, timing cover, radiator etc...)

Slow and steady wins the race - I know all about inmpatience though - just gotta get it done yesterday...lol

Good luck and keep a swear jar in the garage - I made 70 bucks.... :D

Lots of beer helps too...

Slow and steady sure is right - the number of interruptions was unreal today. never mind, It'll all be good.

Thrust bearings didn't arrive today like they were supposed to.

Crankshaft is in with two end mains only at the moment and turns very nicely - pistons all assembled and put in and connected to the crank - bugger, something's not right as it wont turn - too tight. So tomorrows job is to check measure the new bearings etc.

I'll take some pics in the morning.

Poeee and Adeee rocked up towards the end of the day and I could tell that she was really in awe of my overalls - man do I look sexy in them - you know the sort, real baggy around the ass and the crutch down around my knees. Do you really want pictures?????

Wednesday and things are looking good - with any luck the rebuild will be finished tomorow evening and MIGHT be back in - if not, then back in on Friday.

The hassle we were having with the crank not turning was because the thrust bearings weren't in.......they arrived today......put 'em in then she turned no probs.

I'm taking pics. but we've run out of "broadband" at the moment - more to come.

Progress report.........bugger the fancy clothes....

Anyway, all is looking good for running tomorrow. Had a slight hassle with the water pump but got that sorted with some patience and a file. Painting first thing in the morning - run it in a subframe b4 putting it into the car and if all goes well - whammo - look out world.

More pics when we get broadband back next week - there's only 3 in photobucket at the moment.

Success.........finished..........voila...........

Yep, we finished off this morning - got the re-co'ed donk into Ribena yesterday and finished off the "odds and sods" this morning. Did a tune up and little bit of stuffing around and she runs great. Just gotta take it easy 'till it's run in then off we go.

See you at Minis at Mt Cooper in a few weeks time.

A competition - have a look at the picture in photobucket called "Which Bonnet Is Wider". The small one is from my Mini - what car is the other one from amd which is wider????? :lol:
