fixed it yet bob? have you spoken to GR to see what he thinks it is?
Been at work all day man!!

Spoke to Graham earlier. He said popped pot joint or busted drive shaft. Either way I'm happy!! As long as it's not internal - I really don't need to be ripping an engine out again.

This is about how I feel right now.

It looks like it's a blown diff. I have bugger all tools here (most of them are at my new house). Not even a hammer to pop the ball joints.
Drive shafts are fine.
CV's are fine.

Pot joint moves in and out of the diff about 1 to 2 inches nice and freely.

Will have another crack at it tomorrow.

I'm so pissed off right now.

I just finished paying for the engine rebuild yesterday, then this.

Anyone got a match??

Thanks Anyway Jim, but I'll pick mine up from my new place after I get out of work today.

I'm so OVER taking the engine in and out of this car.

I have to work on my new house after work today so it looks like I'll not be going out tonight - rather another evening engine removal

The only saving grace is that I still have my stock Diff sitting in the Garage, and my mate reckons that we can build a good diff using parts from the limo and the stocker. I really hope this is the case - then at least it's not more money, just a massive pain in the arse.

I guess I'll find out later.

My money is still on a diff pin.But it could also be a plantery gear. I would buy a new comp. diff pin. The way you drive in motorkhana's i think it will be worth it, as even Kelvin snaps them. Goof luck, let me know if you need anything, have a few diffs about so may have something you need.

Cheers

Aaron

Last one I got was $65.
Actually these days it's more common to bust the 30+ year old planet (spider) gears as Baracade did. I would fit 2 new spider gears too as well as the comp diff pin.
Gears are listed for $27.20 ea @ KC, comp diff pin $51.02.

Cool. I think I'll start on getting the engine out either late tomorrow, or on Monday.
I have to stay at home all this week anyway as the daughter has chicken pox the poor little vegemite

Hopefully If I build one diff from the two I have plus those new gears and pin you've suggested Doc, it'll last a bit longer next time!!

I didn't run it very long at all after the initial BANG, but I suppose it would be sensible to at least check the oil pump for metal, what with all the money I've thrown at the motor and box recently

On the bright side I almost finished paving the driveway at the new house today - looks MAGIC 8) I may even consider taking the mini around there to pop the new garage's cherry!! (I don't actually have the keys yet, but I know how to get in!!)
Maybe not such a good idea - there's still construction locks on there which means any tradesman with a key could steal bits off the General!!!

I need those mechanics like in the Dukes of Hazzard movie - the guy who rebuilds the entire car for nothing in a couple of hours!!!!

Bob, get used to pulling out the engine & rebuilding your diff, with those big wheels you are running it's a ticking time bomb, in the long run those "cheap" disc brake you are running will end up costing more than a set of Cooper S disc when you are rebuilding a diff every 2 months. I've only ever broken one diff in the cooper s, that was only cause the diff was "well" used, it only broke the crownwheel & pinion, did break the actual diff pin or sun gears

Diff gears usually bust into tooth sized pieces like here- Baracade's effort....
We retrieved ALL these bits, without stripping the box.
Just took the diff out.

If I've broken a gear or something like that, wouldn't metal in the oil be a concern??
I really DON'T want to have to rebuild the engine again any time soon!!!!
