gafmo/jim/James, i think stephenianjames is one person, like gafmojimjames, but unlike steve and mikey
you see, i think his names is "Mr Stephen Ian James"
i was addressing Mr Stephen Ian James, telling him where he may have seen the article on Mrs Dorothy owned by Mr's Steve and Mikey.

If Dorothy was a Cooper S most of the people on here would be critizing her for being original! Food for thought.

It's just that a few people on the forum bag out people/clubs who have restored concourse cars.

In my opinion the ONLY way to have a Genuine Cooper S is restored. People stop me in the street and their first question is 'is it a Cooper S?' to which my reply is something along the lines of it is sacrilege to do up a genuine S like my car, metallic paint, bolt on flares, all racey like. If you want to race up a Mini, or make something a bit different start with a normal Mini, deluxe or K or even an 850 (although they are becoming more common to restore than do up).

Then they ask if I painted it myself and I'm always wondering what is so bad about my paint to make them think that!

Doogs, with the utmost respect......takes a deep breath......do you have some sort of agenda???

How could anyone, I'll say that again...anyone..criticize an original or any other type of Mini here?? :? :?

This Forum is supposed to be about discussing and enjoying Mini related crap...period.

Methinx Doogs was taking the piss outta some people on here more than anything.

Just like some of the most unusual conversions, I respect concourse cars for exactly the same thing. The persistence and effort that went into rebuilding the car.

Some people do not realise how much restorers sacrifice for what is just assembled pieces of metal and other bits. But when its done properly, the effect is brilliant. The fact that a 40 year old car can be made to look like it's just been driven out of the showroom, is a testament to the stubborness in finding only the exact parts that they require in the perfect condition. That's not easy, and it certainly aint cheap.

Well done to the guys, and I hope there will be a mini in that condition in another 40 years. 8)

Thank you everybody for the comments on Dorothy. She was bought from the original owner (Mrs Dorothy Lawn) in Jan 2002. September 2002 restoration was finished. It was made easier by the fact everything was there nothing added nothing taken away, very lucky. As Dorothy was Mikey and my only car at the time she was driven every day for another year 18000 miles. She still is a dam fine mini but was handled with care. Dorothy was restored on an extremely tight budget and people couldn't believe we would restore an 850 but they all ate there words. We live in the inner sydney suburbs where due to traffic an 850 is as nimble as its bigger brothers and sisters. Dot feels like an antique to drive but can be driven hard and is very lively & exciting. We drive dot on dirt in the rain and never shy from taking her out and believe in getting her out and about. Dorothy is not concours but is very tidy and we work hard at keeping her that way. Mikey and I like all minis from beaten up daily drivers to highly modified and we love to chat. So if you see Dot come and chat.

what doogie was saying was that certain people have carried on a tad when origanal cooper pieces were talked about a while ago and for a concorse restoration ...... what was basicly said was that cooper owners are anal retentive about there cars which some are but hey if i was going to spend big dollars on a resto of a cooper i would be anal about it myself
