I have put all my rear end back in now. New everything with the exception of the rubber cones. It is not back on the ground yet, but when I push up on the trailing arm / drum assembly, one side seems softer than the other.

Can rubber cones wear out and become softer than others?

One may not be original. Are they the same height & shape?

If not I'd go rat a pair from a Clubbie at the wreckers.

exact same height and shape. I 'think' both have DUNLOP on them, but will have to check.

So it's not normal then?

Come to think of it, I think it sat with a lean when on all 4..... :?

Maybe one side had newer cones than the other. And yes, from what I've read they can wear out/go softer or whatever,

My 850 had a lean, but new knuckles fixed it. All the cones looked good, not squashed..

Get rears- easier to pull out, and they've had less weight on 'em..

I second that!

Wrecked a rusty Clubby van earlier this year. The rear cones were about 15mm taller than the front ones, and noticeably softer when you pressed the rubber.

I guess this Minivan never carried much load! :)

I have no Idea how good Marcia's are yet and hopeing they are good and wopn't need replacing. I have read in one of the Mini Mags thier are a couple or softnes's EG: soft ride's but I would say like most rubbers they can wear and soften from use

In my experience they get harder with use, not softer.

Funny though how some sag and some don't. All my 850's ones were like new! (I know they weren't 'coz one trumpet was rusted in..)

I'd vote for the knuckles. If you're gonna pull the cones out, don't put 'em back with old knuckles- they cost FA. At least check them out and grease them, if you're that skint.
