My car wont start easily! :(
In the mornings the car hates me! It tries to turn over but it sounds like its not sparking the fuel. (Or something like that) What should I be looking at to figure out where this problem exists????
I looked at the rotor, dizy cap, leads, (new spark plugs), coil is getting electricity
anything that i've missed? Or should I take a second look at it all?
One other problem that i've noticed is that when driving it seems to miss a fair bit when doing 60ks (roughly).

Any ideas would be most helpful.
Specs on car is:
1100S
1 1/4 SU Carb
nothing special added or done to it

air leak somewhere - check the nuts on the intake/exhaust are all wanged up.

I found if mine didnt crank over, pulled the plugs and found I was running way too rich - lean it down a bit and see how you go(remembering where the nut was before you moved it though...)

How old are the plug leads, did you check the points, it could be anything really start with the basics like points gap and are they ok, not pitted to much, get a cheap multi meter that will check resistance and volts and check your plug leads, check the voltage to the coil when cranking the car over. Check inside dissy cap, is the little carbon button ok in the middle, has the rotor button got a dirty end as I said it could be anything but a cheap multi meter will help you check

Rich? It might be, not sure. I was getting it looked at by Melba Motors and he fiddled with the mixture. It was running really bad when I took it to him.
Not sure about the mixture now as when i try to start it I need to pump the acc pedal.

Pumping the pedal will do nothing on an SU, When you say you check the leads, points etc. what did you look for?

You can get a multimeter and test the leads for resistence.

It could be a combinations of everything, weak spark, timing, points, leads..

points are what are under your distributor cap...see blow..

if you roll the car back and forward in 4th gear you should see them open and close, they control when a spark is sent to the plugs.

Put the car in neutral take the cap off and have someone tap the key just to turn car over but not start it points should open when resting on the corner of the shaft. Should be 12 thou clearence between. Where are you and ask someone near you to show you how to change your points. Important lesson easy to grasp anyone can do it.
