How we doin' all?

The name's Harley, I'm 18, live near Melbourne, work and study full time and I plan to build a Mini for club and weekend use next year.
I had a '78 clubman when I was 15, but it didn't progress far before dad sold it to a mate who had his '78 clubman (with 1440 engine) damaged in a rear-ender.
Anyway, as much as I'd like one of the rover sportspack models, I cant afford one for the little use it will get, so the current plan is to get a rover frontcut, and drop the whole front subframe into another car, and fit all the sportspack parts to get the looks how I want. I'm told the engine and frames won't fit into earlier cars, but I'm not sure of the 80's models yet.
That's the plan. Nothing is set in stone yet about the engine department. My car will be about appearance more than performance, but that doesn't mean there'll be a power shortage.

I'm no expert on minis, but a few months on this site should point out all there is to know for when I get build'n.

Thanks for making me welcome.

I live in Hurstville.

Will probably see most of you at the swap meet at Narwee. (that's if I am not too hung over! I will make a special effort)

BTW did you receive some emails from me about the ALL MINI RACE?
(you know, the one that subsequently fell in a heap due to lack of support from Sydney Mini enthusiasts - other states are putting NSW to shame in this regard..... )

Hi guys, I'm a moke owner of four and 3/4 years (December will make it 5) situated in Melbourne.

It's my first car and I've managed to keep it running, despite it breaking my bank many, many times. Over the years i've had much fun driving around in it and wouldn't trade it for anything (ok so *maybe* one in better condition :)).

It's got a 998cc in it, with extractors and a bigger exhaust then whatever the hell the standard is (go mechanical knowledge!).
Drums all round.
Um, it's red.

Body condition is ok'ish save for a few rusts spots under the battery and along the drivers side bottom on the edges.

The wheels need to be aligned, as well as a suspension fix up. At the moment it's hitting hard whenever I go over the slightest pothole so I think it's the shockies that need replacing (haven't touched them since I got it).

Um, what else... it's on it's second engine, the first I killed due to lack of oil. $1800 later and I had a the current 998 put into it, would have loved to go 1275 but having drums stopped me.

I was part of the Moke club of VIC and am aiming to rejoin once my current uni commitments are over (I can't make the monthly meeting due to uni). I joined originally when I got the car but was at an age where I didn't really appreciate the little beast I had at the time so a car club didn't really interest me, was more of a parent pushing thing.

Now I've come to realise how much I value it and inbetween this and that blowing up it's a bit of a struggle to keep it going with the limited knowledge/tools i've got without going the expensive drop it off at northern parts 'it's broke, fix it!' route.

Cheers,

Shard

First, Go drum brakes!

Hey,
You've got it lucky, my parents are going nuts for me not to get a mini or mini variant.

gday boys welcome to the club
its funny how your parents pushed you to have a rust bucket that could stop anytime on the road
ive now converted my parents into driving the things
they love it now, it gives them new life when theyre driving something that could die any minute, how ironic

G,day Folks,

My name is David and have a 1970 Cooper S which seems to keep me poor.
I also have a Brown 73 Clubman called Winnie.
Dorothy and I are members of VMCI and mostly enjoy the social events and monthly trips.
We live on the Northern side of town and enjoy trips this side of the city 'cause we don't have to get up real early.

Took the cars to Epping Shopping Plaza for a display this past weekend. Driving in the shopping centre was like a scene from the Italian Job.

Photos from those events are on the website.

Talk more.

regards,.

David
