Why carry the trolley with you all the time, its just extra weight and space waisted for a "maybe once in many years" sorta scenario. Get a modern diamond jack, they're like $20 and take minimal space and weight. I stole one out of my dad's gf's civic (like she ever gonna use it) and it fits perfectly and securely behind the spare wheel.

Ever wondered how come any mini you buy, the original part never missing is the jack. Its coz its a death trap and everyone is eager to get rid of it.

lol, i have to use a combination of jacks to get under my car now that it's lowered... I use a plain jack to lift the front up just enough to get the trolly jack under it, then jack it up enough to put a jack stand under it!

When I was 18 and before the Mini my mother went over seas for 6 months and left me with her Austin Lancer One day I had a flat and jacked the car up (same as the Mini)and while changing the tire the threaded block stipped and the whole thing came down. Been wary ever since.

Yeah if you buy one watch the nut is not too loose, a bit of grease on the thread is a good idea too... 8)

If the jack wont fit under the car you lift the car!

You can drive the car onto a block of wood (the nice white ones on the side of the road are good) or if you are realy desperate you can drive onto your spare wheel! Then you can jack the car up!

A trolley jack is a pain to carry in the boot. Make sure you have a cover on the battery!
I used to carry the standard jack for road use.

Make sure the standard jack is in good condition and the threads are greased.
And make sure the standrd jacking point is not rusty!

All good hints Morris,

Do not, Do not, trust 30 year old standard side jacks.

I have watched this type of jack UNWIND itself (If you have it just at the right angle).

MINImise any time spent using the damn things without additional stands or whatever

For sure! Esp don't get under the car with just one jack (any jack) as support! Always use jack stands, $30 a pair, i ask you how much your life is worth!

My mate changed the oil on his Skyline using a crappy standard jack and I was freaked out!!! "You idiot" was the kindest thing I had to say about that!

OoOoooo

I know its not something to get excited about, but I invested in some of those metal ramp things. Ran the Charade up on them the other day, changed the oil, the gear oil, the fuel filter, checked the brakes etc etc and it was great. If the car rolled back it rolled away from me. If it rolled forward (heaven forbid) then the stands would have held the car up at the side enough for me to get out (although it would have F'Ked it well and truly..)

Just a shame the mini isnt running to drive that baby up on it.

The reason you open the door is so you can use the factory jack.

If you do not open the door you can not turn the handle a full turn.

68matic... I think that 850pvan knows how to use the trolley jack... he needed it the last time he got a flat in the supermarket aisle...

 I crack myself up...

and another thing, when opening the door to use the silly little side jack, have a heavy cloth handy to put on top of the nut. That way, you won't scrtach the inside of your doors when you gently let it fall against the top of the jack and if its jacked high.
