I remember seeing a short clip of a 3cyl (possibly turbo) Clubbie keeping up with a 5.0 Mustang at a 1/4 race in the US. Very impressive. If I can find the site or clip I will post. Cheers Matt

They seem to be well designed and robust little in-jines. Remind me not to let my Daughter see the drag racing thing tho...

A friend of mine here in Canberra has a Honda 360 Zot which he converted to powered by an 1100 Honda donk - lots of torque, a sweet little car with no room left under the bonnett!![/img]

I think i might have to go to a jap wrecker/importer and do some measuring, and have a bit of a chinwag about potential transplant candidates, I will be asking mainly about powerand reliability, and modifiability vs reliability..... I bet theres some little jap screamers we dont see in cars here

Did mazda make any front wheel drive Rotary's? I know its wrong, but bloody hell it would be wild.....

Doodly doo and some information i have.

http://www.geocities.com/mazda1800/photosII.html

The Luce Rotary was in production from 1969-72 where reportedly 976 units were
built. It holds the distinction of being the only FWD rotary car for Mazda.....

may be hard to find tho.

i am looking at around 140 bhp at the fly if i leave it NA wich in a car that weighs around 700kilos should be pretty impressive"

Last post in that thread!

Would be awesome.
Would be good at the lights just to smoke the ricers to leave them wondering whats under the hood.

hmm that r130 is interesting..... thatnks for the link.... i found a pic of a powerunit and got its dimensions, it could be quite doable, bet parts are as hard to get as s parts though  I will have to ring one of the rotor people and have a yarn about the motor/box....

cheers

Why not use a whole 13B, not 1/2 of it... :P

not sure Dr, next time i speak to the guy (who's building the thing) I'll ask him the reasoning behind it.

Reckon you could also ask how many horsies the conversion gives at the wheels in "standard" trim? and how many it can give RELIABLY (ie without regular motor/box rebuilds), also if he uses a mini subframe, and thus suspension, and how much work is there converting the motor/box... i ask this not so i can rip of his conversion, but so i can get an idea how much of a bitch it would be replacing the box or block should it be required.... do the motor and box remain standard?.... urm i think i better give them a call eh?, i have too many questions.....these are just a few  im also curious about torque, especially lower down.......... It seems a lot of these modern 4 cyl motors have nothing low down.... 200 odd horsies would be nice, but no good if nothing starts happening till 4000rpm ...

Mazda rotaries (I have tuned them, long ago) are renowned for having bugger-all torque low down, but once it's spinnin' hard and the wick is lit... yeehah! :P

Gareth_1330 -

according to whitepages.com.au the contact details are -

ROTORMAX
Unit 6/ 27 Enterprise St Kunda Park 4556
(07) 5445 5318

they have moved atleast once in the last couple of years but stayed in the same area (moved a couple of streets down).

If you call them tell em you want to speak to Doug about a rotary in a mini. he's the one with the know how.

I believe the last conversion he did was between 7k - 8k so its not exactly cheap. I do remember having a laugh with him over the fact he was fitting em with go kart tachos.

hey all,

the daihatsu cahrade turbo..... 993cc 55kw at the fly....roughly 75 horses, not 100!!!

my gf has a g100.......the better of all charades, is a 993 NA it has roughfly 50 hrs, my mini k just beats it off at the lights, .....due to the torque of the extar cylinder and 105cc's!

but for a cheep car you can have fun in,..............and blooody reliable....go a charade!

i would love to do a pulsar GTI 4wd turbo conversion in a moke.....the best thing is that you can cut and chop at the moke as much as u want and it wont be any uglyier!

heheh, MOKES rock!!!!

CATCHYA

BLAKE

you can also get an imported dohc 12v 993 3cyl turbo aswell!, very rare thought!!!!! that would be a good SMALL block for a mini!
