Weber "BOX" is made!
Woohoo thanks heaps Beanie :D
Steve paid me out calling it an 'ashtray' cos its unlike his massive air box that he has in his race car, so anything less is inferior

But it'll serve its purpose well - to seal the firewall up from where the Weber air cleaner needs clearance.

That's about it.
Now i have the fun task of cutting the whole out NICELY (there was a small *hack* cut into it, so i'm fixing it up)
I've started to cut it out a couple of mm from the line using an angle grinder, later i'll clean it up with a die grinder.
Make it nice :)

Now.... should i get it welded in? Or just screw it in so it can be removed at a later date, need that happen.

Weld it. Anything else is just ghey. You have already hacked it up with a grinder so it's not like it's going to fawk it up or anything.

"Neatened" thankyou very much
The previous owner "hacked it up with a grinder", so i was just finishing off what that useless bastard didnt get round to doing.

The firewall MUST be sealed for roadworthy purposes, so this is why i'm going to 'all the trouble' by doing the 'box'.

Box is only sitting there.
The paint shop will be welding in/ smoothing/ whatever they will be doing to make it look 'factory'
I'm thinking that it'd be neater if they had the box on the inside of the firewall then weld around the hole and grind back.
But i dont know.
I have no expertise in this field (well any field really).

That is all.
Comment away... at my brutal attacks.

Don't take it personal willy, was only havin' a go

I think it's going to be a bit tough to make it look "factory". To make it smooth & neat maybe cut the hole and box to match so there are no overlaps and butt weld it together. Would be a bit fiddly getting it to match up and more difficult to weld too. Consequently that's going to cost more, and more custom car than factory. How about fill in the hole above the box as above then drill holes in the flange around the box and weld it to the body through those, making a spot weld effect. You might say that will look dodgy but it would be a lot closer to how the factory would have done it!!!

It would be. Any reason why you cant?

That is painfully obvious

Yeah i could have a go but i'd rather leave it for someone else to bugger up
And the hole at the top will be filled in too!
I reckon it'll look pretty good once its done.

Okay.
Me and Nige picked up the deluxe from home with the Brickworx Courier Truck and took it to the paint shop (just round the corner from Brickworx).

Ted and Richard (of Senyks) are the guys that work there.
They are brothers.
I have spoken to them on many occasions about my plans for the Deluxe, and also given them a few hands with things that require more than two people (like lifting an MG body onto and off of its chassis)

So.
He likes the look of the Deluxe, but would like to do a FULL bare metal respray
And he also said if i wanted to keep costs down a bit, i can strip it with him.
SO thats good.
And thats whats happening.
The end.

Updates as things progress.
