It amazes me how they can just "run out" of the good stuff. Surely they can plan production a bit better?? Can't they??

Maybe there's a shortage of paint thinners (toluene) or whatever aromatic hydrocarbon they are boosting it with to get 98RON.... :P
Whatever is in it, it strips my acrylic paint off real good below the crap filler necks. :(

One of the BP's in geelong ran out of 98 and 95. This relly annoyed me, as this was the only servo i could reach without having to push my car, which was running on fumes at the time. I had no choice but to put a couple of litres of 92 in my car, and drive down the HWY to the nearest shell.

funny thing about that 100 octane ethanol mix. when i was at the servo the other day filling the forester, the pump was already set up for the stuff. but just next to the nozzle was a little sticker saying "caution only put this crap in your car if the manufacturer says you can" or along those lines......

yeah i remember you saying that it would be short in WA...then when all the servos between grandmas house (little red riding hood???) and home all were out of ultimate...so i gave up and put 95 in...its going ok but does not seem to last as long.

doc, what fuel are you using that strips the acrylic? cos im going to be re-spraying in acrylic...

All 98 octane premium fuels seem to strip it- I think this stuff is now more correctly called `paint thinners' or `aromatic hydrocarbons' rather than `petrol'...

<edit> real problem is both my fuel necks have been abused over the years by other people forcing the locking caps off.
I've had 3 different types of cap, all leak.

It'a always approx 10c a litre dearer.

I have an XR8 which only runs on 98. Cost me $77 to fill it the other day.

I need a Mini on the road.
