I hate to vere off talking about the van conversion because I've loved hearing about it all... but it's kinda off the original subject of a good place for cheap parts and I really need help knowing where to go for cheap parts.

mini parts are never cheap
then again.. if you know someone with a mini... generally they have spare parts :P

now.. back to the sub-topic...
is the conversion legal??? if I hack out part of my floor in the van, and add 2 more seats..... I presume it needs to be engineered?

Cheers mate. I guess i can't take any shortcuts.:) So I'll just start doing my own research. Thanks for all your help and I'm glad you like my mini project. Hopefully I'll have it done by the northern mini tour next year :D

To be blunt - a commecial dealer is going to charge commercial rates no matter what state your in. I have found here that the "cheapest" price for SH parts is available here from members who [at least local members where postage is not required] and have got to know you through the forum. "Mates Rates" if you will.

Technically you do need an engineer's certificate as your car was built after 1968 and you wish to carry passengers older than 12 or weighting more than 50kgs. Pre 1969 (in Vic anyway) you can fit what you like.

You will need lap-sash rear seat belts. That's where it starts getting interesting - there is nothing strong enough to fit the upper mount to on a van, except the rear pillars... :(

Have a look at the VicRoads website under "Seats - Additional" - it has all the rules. 8)
