Hi all,

Does anyone know /have a suggestion on which is the best carby set-up for a 1380?

I've got a set of twin 1 1/4 SU's, but have been told these will starve the motor (it's not fitted yet).

I think the most common response might be a 45 Weber/Dellorto setup

Or, if you can't stand the noise of Weber/Dellorto- a pair of HS4s, or single HIF44.

What is the HIF44? Is that a later model 1 3/4"?

What sort of prices should I pay for the different set-ups?

makka is selling a hif44 with manifold and linkages and a K&N filter for $250
that's a good price. i've been told a hif44 still puts out good power but much more fuel economic than a webber/dellorto/twin SU's.

There's a couple on eBay in the UK, so fingers crossed.

I had a Weber on my Clubbie Van, but it was horrid, maybe because it was only a 1098... But it also used to drip petrol onto the headers, and I was told that was normal???!!!

1380? Go a webber 45! a bit of fuel dripping won't hurt noone

As far as I gather if your fuel level is set correctly a sidedraft shouldnt drip.

Fitting a fuel regulator can help stop duel dripping too, if you run a facet pump for instance. Pretty sure it helped stop the problem on Christoph's weber.

I've got an original electric SU fuel pump, can the flow be adjusted on that?

Shouldn't need a regulator with a Facet/TRW/Purolator solid state pump (the little square one), I've fitted many to Minis.
If your Weber or Dellorto or SU is flooding with one of these pumps, I'd replace the carb's needle and seat.... like I did mine (Dellorto) 9 years ago..

When I was running the SU everybody told me my Facet pump would cause the carb to flood etc. Well, it never did, didn't leak fuel out the top of the float bowl. Never had a problem. My Dell'orto does leak, but that is a gasket problem which I haven't got round to fixing.
