Can I pull the oil filter housing off without draining the oil?

The lump has the bolt on canister and I've picked up a spin on housing. When I first tried to replace it the engine was drained but I couldn't get the studs out of the block - then I didn't have the generator out - now its out I can see I have more room to get at the studs but there is now oil in the sump.

Yeah you'll lose a couple of tablespoons of oil (how many mL IS that??) don't worry. Same amount as you lose when you change the filter now. 8)
