Can I pull the oil filter housing off without draining the oil?

The lump has the bolt on canister and I've picked up a spin on housing. When I first tried to replace it the engine was drained but I couldn't get the studs out of the block - then I didn't have the generator out - now its out I can see I have more room to get at the studs but there is now oil in the sump.

Anonymous moderation means the agro that is built up towards the mods isn't aimed at an individual (fewer "Makk" attacks). Less stress for mods means less moderator "retirements".

Yeah you'll lose a couple of tablespoons of oil (how many mL IS that?? ) don't worry. Same amount as you lose when you change the filter now.
