OK so how can I stop both mine leaking. Can you get a flip cap (eg Aston or Monza) that doesn't use the top face of filler neck to seal on?

Ok I now have a tankful of "Optimax Extreme", 100 octane ULP @ $1.27/litre - will report on the driving experience when I've driven it a bit more.

Is the 5% ethanol conent supposed to cause a lot of damage to my gaskets, fuel floats etc?

Gday Dylan - get one of those Jap 7.5 gallon tanks - they come with the unleaded insert to stop people trying to cram the leaded (when they were around!!)hose into a unleaded car. The little flap stops the fuel coming out and on the paint..

hey cheers mate...but where can i get one? (that will fit) perhaps a rover tank???

i got onto BP asking about their ultimate, this is the reply...

Hi,

Thank you for getting in touch and we deeply regret our inability to
supply BP Ultimate or Premium Unleaded at this time.

BP did have some issues at its refinery in Perth earlier last month
which has led to supply issues for BP Ultimate in Victoria and NSW. The
refinery at Kwinana is now running and we are working to supply markets
again as quickly as possible, however we expect situations in Melb and
Syd to continue into December, Please note that from our knowledge the
shortages are restricted to BP only.

In the meantime we are recommending that all drivers who are unsure
whether their car can operate on lower octane grades to consult their
owners manual or manufacturer for advice.

BP Ultimate is our best product, and I can assure you that we are doing
everything we can to renew and maintain supply. If you are able to
visit
www.bp.com.au/sms you can register for an SMS update when supply
resumes.

so there ya go. should be back soon.

brett, you're on the inside, get us the goss!

Shell Kensington on Gardeners Road - seems to be the only one in the E. Burbs that stocks it

All the BP's in my area are dry, I drove to 5 within my area and all of them did not have Ultimate. I can't find a caltex with Vortex 98, so I was forced to fill up with Optimax which I have never tried on Lillee before. I am happy to report she runs well on Optimax too 8)

Really, you know that for a fact do you? Where do you get such reliable(??) sources of information?

My sources inside Kwinana tell me Ultimate is back in production and deliveries are rolling out. They tell me all sites should be supplied within a week.

Went to the local Shell this morning that stocks the "Optimax Extreme" 100 octane - they had run out. :o so I got the normal Optimax instead.
Seems like they had underestimated demand for the product - as I drove past this afternoon the tanker was unloading :x .

The price for the "Optimax Extreme" was 3c/L more than the Optimax, which was 10c/L more than the unleaded. 8)

Not for long though - it must be an introductory price or a way to sell ethanol to the public.

Can't notice much performance difference - but this may be due to the clamp having been ripped off the bottom of my exhaust.

re: shell optimax extreme...doesn't their promo material say "for modern performance engines"??? surely this would not include mini???

i went to all the bp's between essendon and home, thats essendon, laverton, little river, north geelong, moolap and leopold, none of them had it a couple weeks ago. but hopefully it will be back soon. i hve been running on bp premium (95 RON i think?) and it is running fine, however i will need to fill up in the next couple days, ill prob give mobil 8000 a crack, or optimax, i used to run it on optimax. but before that i ran it on LRP *shudder*

interesting question...if yoiu could use leaded petrol now, would you? without obvious health and environmental concerns... cos the engines are designed to run on it????
