I have recently read comments about environmentally friendly 2 pac paint.

What is it? Who sells it? and why is it "safe" to spray at home?

I have 3 projects to paint (at least) in the coming year and want to try my hand at 2 pac this time around.

havent heard of it????????

- woke up Saturday with a splitting headache & bloodshot eyes

Thats probably the isocianate?? free 2 pac paint. It's been around for a while if its the stuff your talking about Anton. My opinion is not much difference, but its been a few years since i sprayed with it.

yeah I have read about the new water based 2 pacs in the US that are fine to spray.. not sure HOW WELL developed they are yet.. Ring a paint place like House of Kolurs bet they would know

The MINIs are supposed be all water based painted.
Dunno if I'd trust it, it means if you scrub just that little bit too hard when
washing, you'll be seeing silver.

Yep my grandfather painted a vintage car in 2 pak once and swore he would never do it again, he was urinating blood for a couple of days afterwards...

I have heard of someone else who painted a Mini at home in 2 pac and swore never again.

The painter that did my car used 2 pac in my garage but he did use a good mask with proper filters while painting..

You should be using a full mask that is supplied with constant air. they are great to use and you dont smell a thing. 2 pac is bloody easy to use, great off the gun finish. Recommend a spray booth tho.

2-pak clearcoat contains isocyanates, which cause CANCER. The basecoat (colour) is ok to spray with just your average everyday mask. You definately need a booth and an extremly good mask (air-wash hood would be the best) to spray the clearcoat. There are iso-free 2-pak clearcoats around, i know paint supplies in adelaide stock some.

If you do use 2-pack make sure that you get a disposible plastic body suit and a decent resperator. Most filters when using 2-pac only last for a day or so as when using acrylic they last for a couple of days longer if they are stored in an air tight container after use. Filters are no good when you can start smelling the fumes through the mask.

Could you put a coat of that over acrylic metallic base coat? And I'm assuming that you don't need to bake these paints, as that would put it beyond those of us without drive-in ovens
