Hey guys,

I am hoping that you could give me some ideas of what the cause of a missing mini might be. It started with it missing once the revs got over 4K. Now if i drive it and get the revs up to 3K or so it misses badly, breaks right down and will cut out. I played around a little because i thought it might have been dirty fuel, bad plugs or my contact set was wasted. So after replacing my contact set and checking the fuel bowl for water, etc i replaced the plugs and hey presto.. It seemed to be fine. That was last sunday. Thursday this week my gremlin came back to haunt me. GRRRR!!!! I am just about ready to give up my DIY. and hand it over to the professionals. Take it to a mechanic that can test all the coil and leads and the rest of the electrical components.

I would love to hear any ideas that i may have overlooked :?: I am suspicious that it is an electrical issue. Perhaps a fuel pump problem (not sure how to explain the new plugs fixing it) lay your ideas on me please i will be very grateful.

Thanks again
Brad (skimini)

What plugs did you fit? If OK with new plugs, then went bad, maybe the heat range is too cold....
Also, what mods have you done to the motor, if any?

The mini has been running fine for the last 12 months or so since i have had her. It is only in the last 2-3 weeks that it's been playing up. I would think this would rule out the dizzy problem. Its been revved hard on many occaisions  and no signs or problems until recently. There have been no engine modifications at this stage to my knowledge, still standard cast intake/exhaust manifold and filter so no signs of a stage one kit at all. It really has me baffled. The plugs i replaced it with were the same ones that i put into it 12 months or so ago... Champion N11YC.

I hate driving around keeping the revs under 2K, although it is saving me a bit of fuel (like i give a crap) it drives me nuts not being able to shift down coming into a corner and give it a bit of a feed.

Thanks alot to all ur ideas and please keep them going.

since ya changed yer plugs, and it cleaned it up a bit, have ya considered trying new spark plug LEADS? they're only a couple bucks each

again, just another idea.

Try driving it for a while then jump out and feel how hot the coil is. If its quite hot it is breaking down. We see it alot on race engines. They break down inside due to vibration.

Another reason (besides keeping it dry) to hang it on the inner guard, not the motor! :P
