ok good news, I just spoke ot GR and my head is finished and my pistons are now on the rods, so i pick them all up tomorrow, he said the head came up great and he got another 5cc's out of the head so now the comp is down to 7.6:1 so that is great for 15psi
he cust new seats and fitted new seals and all is good, i will start the build this weekend and take some more pics too.

i was down at GR's and saw your head being worked on. Yep, she's certainly a little less metal in there.

Cheers

GR is Graham Russell of Russell enginnering, he's a guru of mini engines, does great cam grinds, builds & dyno's some real bits of gear. He's a font of knowledge & a genuine nice guy too.

update,

ok over the weekend i fitted the crank up again and measured the end float and it was only at 2.5 to 3 thou, so i got my flat bed out and got some wet & dry and thinned them down evenly, and miced up each point on each thrust to ensure they were parrallel, and got the clearence now set at 4.5 thou, then i i fitted the crank up with engine build lube and torqued up the bolts with some loctite on the threads just to be sure, from there i fitted up the cam gears and checked if they were level, with the dial gauge on the gears, i got it so the crank gear is 4 thou lower than the cam gear, so that is fine for a chain, i also fitted the new valve springs to the head, man the new ones are much longer and stronger(ill up some pics soon) the valves are actually standard MK1 S valves at 29mm and 31mm.

once its all finished i just need to work out if i will be taking it to GR for a dyno tune or i fit it to the car and get it on the chassis dyno?

what are your thoughts

Looking good.....Just a questions about the mains caps...

The huge centre main cap seems fine but the original front and rear caps don't appear to have enough thread in those castellated nuts....have you had the studs out:?:
