hee hee,,,i remember quite a few years ago when i first clicked onto MiniMania site & blurted out how much i love my twin inch & 3/4 SUs on my 1415cc strokers & didn`t i get a bashing from all & sundries, my first ever stroker that i built when i was 15/16 years old had em & i`ve still got em, & they`re still sweet
i went on & on about how much testing that my dad had done for so many years & sorted all the sugar from the crap & ended up with a way better carb set up with twin inch & 3/4 SUs, i`ve never strayed from that being the best set up for both road & race till now,,,simply because Bimmer twin cam 16v with turbo & sequential engine managment system is now the new ruler

but i spose you`re all gonna call it cheating ey???
ha ha,,,well,,,now the secret is out & not everyone is a happy camper
webers are nice, loud, raunchy & "look & sound" fast,,, twin Sus are sweet, neat & period but really do supply the goods """"""""""when set up well""""""""""
But, nobody can argue with late model technology tho, Far far superior with engine managment,,,ok ok,,,not many can afford it or would even really want it, so what tho,,,i can & do
but back to the question at hand, twin SUs are really the ducks nuts if purchased at the right price & set up by the right person the right way on a good manifold with the right donk, just that most pieces of sh!t twins sold at swap meets are just so crappy that nearly everything has to be done to em & some people are blind to that fact, they just think they got a bargain & expect that they`ll just be able to be bolted on & be better than the single carb they had, but quite often that`s not the case, good chunks of money & time would most likely be needed to be spent on the "Average" 2nd hand twin carb set up to be sweet
webers "can" be a little easier in the "Average": situation,However you can still be burnt with buyin 2nd hand weber/dells too
a crappy poorly set up weber/dell can be easilly beaten by a single inch & 1/2 SU on a good manifold,,,a crappy poorly set up SU or twin SUs can easilly be beaten by a wonderfully set up weber/dell on a good manifold
most of any big differences between weber/dells & twin SUs come down to how good the manifold is,,,simple as that, """if all else is perfect""" & size for size, then the best manifold will win. FACT!!!!!!!!!!
Keith,,,good to see you here & a big welcome to the Aus mini board, & also have a dam good chrissy & wickedly wonderfull new year, stay safe & please drop in more often & spark up some more lively converstions with all these mini nuters
I`ll have a few wild turks for you old fella
Suck it & see
