Then she can get somebody else to do it then. It's like converting a proper Oz Mini to take those late crap UK internal hinge doors. :x
Needless customization....

OK I'll run along now, the flat earth society meeting is about to start.

I have nothing against the two original type rear doors, and used them for years. Sure, they rattle and rust and make rear view vision a bit problematic. And new ones are now non existant. But they do the job and if you're wanting to stick with originality they're the ones you must have.

But the one piece door has been around for almost as long as the Mini van itself. IMO the one piece adds to the cuteness and cheekiness of the van by making it look lower and wider at the rear. It accentuates its natural "bad boy" poise, even more so if the van is lowered and has wide wheels with flares. Especially on a round nose van.

The doors were listed in Mini Spares catalogue - hardcopy version. They don't seem to be in their online one. The part no. is MS109 and they cost (in 1999) 81 pounds (around $200). Several other Mini suppliers in the UK probably have access to them as they seem to be quite popular with van owners over there.

I can't remember how much it was to post out here but I ordered a number of largish items at the same time including a f/g bonnet and a new grille and I don't think it was too expensive.

There is a Clubman van getting around Adelaide with a one piece rear door so they may still be available somewhere locally. Peter Smith was making a lot of stuff for Minis in Adelaide but I don't know if he is still in business - he was a member of the SA Mini Club and had a business on South Rd at Hindmarsh where he also made a lot of fibreglass items for gardens. In Melbourne, Eroll Platt who raced a fibreglass Mini at Calder made them (along with heaps of other f/g panels for Minis including lift off fronts, Broadspeed dashboards, bonnets, boots, flares, etc) and so too did GS Fibreglass in Sydney - they may still have the moulds.

I don't normally like bodykits, but this one looks slick with the perfect black paint and stick on wood, matching big wheels..... notice it's actually a clubman estate...

the back door would open a little further, but not much, and the opening is quite small because of the way top of the door hinges downwards

I saw a van yesterday with a swing open door (not the lift up door) parked on Lane Cove Road, North Ryde at a commercial food equipment place. It was a deep red (I think as I am a little colour blind). Didn't have a camera either.

I hadn't seen one before, then I get on here and there is a whole thread about them.

I sent Minispares and email a week back and finally got a reply for the door...
Let say it was 106 pound for the door then 140 pound for postage to Sydney.. So say about 600 bucks  a little less but close enough, the door looks sweet but i think i could get the old ones welded together and re-skinned for cheaper than that... Rust still would be a problem, as well as all the weight on one side of the door cos they would still be metal doors...
Cheers
Daniel

90 pound is alot better than 140  But yeah its still alot for a rear door, like $600 then you need to mod the latch/ handle and then paint...

I managed to track down the owner, apparently these estates were built by a Portuguese Company called IMA and the door was all metal and not fiberglass  He said he?ll take some more pics of the hinges and of the lock mechanism,

Quote:
The single rear door is hinged on the roof with some I guess self made hinges by the IMA company in Portugal.
The door lock is the well known MKI/MKII passenger door lock. It engages in a "U" shaped counterpart in the middle of the lower door cutout. The outer handle is again from MKI/MKII minis boot. Be aware that the IMA Mini Estates have no cutout for the door locking push rods. That means that the lower door seal needs a straight panel to work properly. Hold open device is a common door damper. The door itself is made of steel and therefore is not one of those aftermarket glassfibre things
