was there ever a series in QLD simialar to the mini se7ens or miglia if so why isnt there stilll one

i read the thread that the SA guys have going with mini racing with 998s and drums and i think its a great idea maybe disks would be good but a cheap form of mini racing great idea

I know this probably should be in the motorsport section but have a feeling not many actuallty visit that

Ohh and i got Building, Preparing and racing Your Mini by Bill Sollis for a pressy for xmas hence my enthusiasm lol actually good book

It was attempted about ten years ago. No luck

Just remember Marc, that a one make series with Minis is allot different to say HQs or Geminis, parts are plentyfull and cheap for those cars. Now it's very rare for any wrecking yard to have any Minis at all.

Having said that any form of motorsport is expensive.

Yeah we had that a few years back at Qld raceway, it was an all Historic racing Minis. IE only group Nb & Nc.
Then the next year it was a handicap race Minis Vs XU-1 Toranas, again all Group Nb & Nc.
Completly different to the Mini racing (like SA) that your talking about Marc.

Unfortunatley these days there's no such thing as a cheap racing series.

Hay, it's not about the car, it's not about the venue, it's about the people that come here. Peter Dwyer, Mayor of Hay NSW.

Have to agree with Doogie here, there is no cheap motorsport, by the time you fit the minimum safety requirements to the car for a speed event and get the required personal gear and a license its probably $4000 and thats not including the car to put it in and keep it running

Yeas, CAMS have really farked it all now... at least here in NSW there are still track days where you can practice, without all that $$$$ outlay. :D

For the time being....however, I believe CAMS are heavily lobbying the NSW gummint in a bid to gain control of all circuits.

Super Mini Series ran in Victoria until early 1990's or thereabouts. I was lucky enough to compete from about 1987 to 1991 - great fun!!!! The Series was sponsored by CIG and regularly attracted entries of around 25 minis. Alas, with rising motor sport costs and the the HQ Holden formula the Super Mini Series soon finished. Must be lots of Mini sport sedans hiding in garages all over the State now - I know, mine;s still sitting and waiting for the day when historic Sport Sedan racing starts up again (Oh, and when I win Tatts).

There was talk last year of extending the NSW series to Winton and other tracks( talk of some of the Jap cars coming over to join the fun) who would run under non Cams rules about licensing and car log book fees, safety is stil opmost under these non Cams rules but its a more sensible aproach without having to have your car meet FIA rules that are basically designed for F1 and stuff the little club racer :D
