Hi to all,

This is going to be an odd question. I'm looking into fitting a fuel cell to my mini and one of the fuel cell dealers has asked what the ohm range of the fuel gauge is.

Anyone know the answer to this? I want to use the fuel gauge that is integrated with the speedo, got enough gauges so really don't want a seperate fuel one.

If you havn't looked at these checkout:

http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/fsafe1.htm
or
http://www.atlinc.com/

They are a very interesting product.

Thanks,

Jacks.

There are two types of sender
The early one is bolted in. The gauge has no voltage stabiliser fitted
The readings for this are
Empty 0 ohm 1/2 45 ohm Full 72 ohm

The later type is held in with a lock ring and the gauge is fitted with a voltage stabiliser
Empty 240 ohm 1/2 65.5 ohm Full 19 ohm

My car is a 1965 model - easy way to tell which it is?

Thanks

J.

Check the rear of the speedo unit
The early type has the fuel guage sticking out of the assembly
The later type has the fuel guage inside the housing and you should be able to see the voltage stabiliser attached to the speedo housing. The power to the guage comes from the stabiliser

I'm using a brand new speedo from Mini Sport - its got 130mph and 200kmph on it.

Will that be the same?

Uuumm J, which part of bolt in or lock ring (see above) don't you undersatnd? If you're talking about the gauge; an early gauge (bolt in sender) will immediatley flick to the reading when you turn the ignition key. The newer gauge sort of creeps up to the reading (and, as stated, has a voltage regulator (small metal cannister about 1 cm by 5 or 6) attached to the back of the speedo (somewhere).

Cheers, Ian

Your fuel gauge suits the later type sender
Empty 240 ohm 1/2 65.5 ohm Full 19 ohm
You will need a voltage stabiliser if not already fitted to the speedo

Thanks Ken, does the new speedo normally come with the stabiliser or is that a seperate unit?

Thanks,

Jacks.
