My speedo has sort of gone haywire. Whenever the car is moving the needle flicks around like crazy and coming to a stop does not necessarily reset the needle to zero. This doesn't bother me so much but the girlfriend has concerns! Am I looking at refitting/replacing the speedo cables or sourcing a new speedo altogether?

Oh so it is not meant to do that  , well then. I was sure thay when cruising down the highway, my speed was changing from 60 to 100 mph in a second? Maybe i was wrong.
So is the meter not meant to go crazy, it would be a help if it didn't, cause then i would have some idea of how fast i am going!
So a magnet then. I'm on to i already.
Thankyou for raining the question

Last new cable I bought was dry as a bloody bone inside. After a few thousand miles it started the tic-tic.. :x

If you fit a new one, put a little molygrease on the inner cable- but keep the top 100mm or more dry. If it gets into the speedo.........

yea could be the cable, could be a gear in the speedo head.

Also, there is a spring in the speedo head (not sure of the correct term, but it wraps around in a coil about 20 times). This cold be sticking. I know this because I stripped a speedo to every last screw and put it back together and this spring gave me grief. Similar symptoms.

Have fun!

My advice is unplug the bloody speedo, and read your speed off the tacho! That's what I do, much easier (my odometer doesn't work anyway so I don't need to keep mileage).

Yeah, whats a tacho?
I like the idea of having no speedo.
So does anyone have a cheap but good tacho they want to sell me, or timthetool, it is his topic!
