A guy that lives near me owns a 71ish Leyland Mini. He's had the car for years and was his daily driver. Past couple of years the car has been sitting in the yard not covered up, and exposed to all weather conditions. My old man went up and asked if he could buy it, the guys response was no. Apparently he's gunna do something with it "some-day". It's a bluish colour with a white top, poor car now has rust in the roof and is looking rather sad after years of neglect, tyre's are flat, and sitting under trees hasn't helped. I'm going to stop by this arvo and take a couple of pics of it. It'd be a good restoration project (if the guy would sell it) as the car did look quite nice many years ago.

damn shame!! I know a similar stoy about a guy that has a 1275 moke. I've been trying to buy that off him for years, but no ..... HE's gonna "do something with it some day" too

But you never know if you don't ask mate so go for it.

5 years ago the guy who bought my mint condition (I mean it...mint!) fudge brown clubby wheeled it into his carport, and the car hasn't moved an inch in all that time. I'd taken some of the car apart, and nothing has been pulled off of put back since.
I keep sayin I'll buy it back, but as always he's gunna do something with it.

A friend I run a Mini community with on this side of the planet had a yellow Clubman Estate, which he basically.. well, he loved that thing! He did alot of work to it and took great pride in owning it. Evenually he had to sell it, for reasons, and suddenly I saw it pop back up on the market, a few years later. So my friend went to view it, and basically try to buy it back. No idea what that owner did with this poor Estate but some of the bodywork was so far gone in places that it would just be a nightmare to repair, but the current owner wasn't going to sell for anyless than his over-the-top asking price. The owner said he'd rather it sit and get wrost, than sell it for less. The seller also had a Mk1 or Mk2 sitting in his garage letting his young son 'do whatever he likes' with it.. Butchering.

I've heard loads of stores like this, were Minis, and other cars I like such as the VW Beeltes and Campers, are just left to rot. It only gets to the point were the rot is soo bad, that any left over metal is as good as scrap. It's a massive shame people can do this to cars.

I never took any pics of the car. Sorry. Next time I'm out there I'll see about it, but thats not very often. It was a 78 model, just a base model I think.
The interior was a tan colour. I still have the front deats at home if you want a pic of them?

The scary thing is he has plans for it. He already has his 1440+ engine built, just hasn't got round to fitting it or anything. I'm hoping he doesn't, cause I will continue to keep trying to get it (back).
Insists he won't sell it, cause it needs no panel or rust repair, making the new paint job easier.

Something of interest to Brown Clubman, I got the car as a recovered theft vehicle.

Lesson number 1: Don't sell cars that you will regret selling later on in life! Beg, steal, kill to keep them!

Interesting indeed!! I take it you bought it from auction then? I wonder why the original owner didn't want it any more? Had it been damaged or was it just not ever claimed?

Don't know exactly. As a guess, the would have been auctioed off, and it's new owner intended to fix it, but after a number of years didn't get anything done, and that's when it was bought by my dad for myself (15 at the time). The car hasn't been on the road in the best part of at least a decade. The car wasn't damaged at all. Still a bit of a mystery, the only stuff removed from the car when it was found was the bonnet and the brake and clutch master clyinders. One or two other bits in the bay perhaps, but it was generally complete. So why it's owner at the time didn't fix it, and why the next guy didn't either I don't know. I was pulling it apart, and taking my time since I wasn't going to be driving for a while. But when dad's mate had his LS written off, he got ours for the resto.
He also has an original GT that still goes like the day it rolled off the line.

I just remembered he'll be moving out of his current place soon. Hmmm.......
