Hi there,

So there was suppsedly 500 of these made .... is that correct?

Surely then we have "some" of the owners of these cars on this site.

If you own an "SS" please post up any pics of your car here. Interior, exterior, engine bay, close ups ..... whatever you have.

Just interested .... that's all.

Cheers,
BC.

Good idea , as for the number made , I have 2 seperate short magazine articles here from the late 70's , one say'300 and the other said 500 . I think the one that said 300 was when it was launched and the one that said 500 was when they stopped and did the LS , I try and find them , scan them and then put them on this post .

Technical Book Shop in Melbourne is where I bought my copy. If they don't have it they can get it.

The best Oz mini book your money will buy IMO.

Cheers,
BC.

looks like I will need to get a couple stickers made up to go along the side.
Thats the first time I have seen what my car should look like.

Thanks for that eagle.

Does yours have the original radio and internal bonnet release fitted? Is it still original colour?

I have almost worked out the Leyland code...
022D2S3M09

The first three digits (022) is the "Model Designation" The 022 means "Mini" (the mini with the magic wand gearchange would be 021)

The 4th digit (D) is the "Complaince Status Code" I do not know how this works.

The 5th & 6th digits (2S) is the "Body Type". The 2S is a 2 door saloon.

The 7th digit (3) is the "Quality Level" 1=Mini, 2=S, 3=SS, 4=LS

The 8th digit (M) is the "Transmission Type" M = 4 speed floor shift manual.

The 9th & 10th digits is the "Engine Capacity" 09 = 998

It was used as a track car from what I can gather by the previous owner. It was metallic blue with bronze racing stripes when I got it and I have sprayed it crimson just 2 months ago. It still has an internal bonnet release but the radio is long gone (not by me). In a few years after my next restoration project (need a van need a van need a van....) I will do it back to original.........
