Actually Kev, that aint quite true. The sliding type carburettor's such as SU's are less prone to icing since the flow is constantly changing with piston movement. That and the fact the piston can remove the icing when it slides.

crap eh, there IS an advantage to SU's. who woulda thunk it??

i had a nother look tonight when i got a free minute and figured that the cable was actually catching on the carb itself......when i thught about it realised that it was after my foot had een flat that it stuck open

i tihnk it was the choke linkage/setup that it was getting caught behind.....wont be happenin no more :)

Actually as an SU is a `constant depression' device, the air velocity (not flow volume) below the piston is way more constant than that thru the venturi of a Weber, which varies directly with position of yer right foot..

Anyhow I've never had icing in any Weber or Dellorto- I'll believe it when I see it!.

Yeah my SU used to freeze up quite often in winter, you'd be cruising along at 4000 rpm in traffic, lift your foot and keep going. Carb used to be soaked in water!

Well I fixed it with a 40DHLA Dell'orto. A (possibly) cheaper alternative would be to fit a water heated inlet manifold and hook it up during winter.
