yeah "just cars" were the only one's that would insure mine because I lost my licence for speeding many years ago... otherwise shannons would of done it.

In regards to insurance, I was with Shannons and had 4 Mini's insured with them, then the premium went up by $500 a year on just 2 cars, so I changed and am now with Unique car insurance and it's very good and quite resonable. They had no problems in insuring both cars for the same amount that Shanoons had them for. I have made a claim for a windscreen and they were very good and helpful.

In regards to gottheminiitch's questions, I have only had a minor electrical problem with my car but I'm lucky my Dad is pretty handy and fixed the problem. They do need oil cahnges often and he does that too. Yes $12,500 is a LOT of money for a Mini, but I liked it and had the money so brought it. But I totally see where you are coming from. It's great comfy ride, with A/C it's great in summer, a black car gets pretty hot but the A/C works well.

Love the car. You might be lucky and find a good 1.3 for the price you want to pay. Mine has no rust and yes a car that's only 12 years old has a better body than my 34 year old Mini :)

Dr Gonzo: Don't live near Campbelltown, out at Rooty Hill.

Lurker: Sounds like we are in similar positions/ frame of mind.
Dad is handy, being a qualified electrician and able to change the oil and filters etc.
I would also love a black mini. Preferably with white stripes and roof. Wine red looks good too.
Gotta save some cash and keep searching. Anyone selling a Rover? :wink:

Gottheminitch we do sound similar, I being a non mechanically minded female just give the orders to my Dad and he fixes them up and adds bits onto them for me. We together have fixed my Rover, (number plates Lurker, my nickname at work), up quite well.

He has saved me a lot of money by being handy like that.

Keep looking around, there are some nice Mayfairs on the market, you might be lucky.

You call that minor? Wasn't the car haunted by this mysterious problem for like 2 months? :D

Itchy;
Here's a good indication of the Sydney mini market, this car here has already sold. Iit looks like it only took about a week to sell as iwannamini only told me about this car late Dec, and its been missing from the lot for over a week. :shock:

http://www.drive.com.au/used_cars/mini/ ... 1&d=0&nv=1

I went and looked at the car for another Ausminer :wink: , and at the time described it as;

1988 Mayfair, all Gunmetal grey, 24K kms on the odo but car looks like its done probably double that.
- Auto with air con
- Rover mags with small black plastic flares
- Body is in very good condition, just a few minor scratches and a small amount of rust on rear driver's side window
- Asking $10990

Not sure what it ended selling for, but the interior was very plain compared to the Granville / Ryde Rover I'm guessing you're looking at.

Hey Harley,

Yeah minor electrical problem did hang around for a couple of months give or take 6 months or so. But we don't talk about it, cause when ever we the car stops again.

So nothing will be mentioned again :)

Hey,

I'm also new to Aus-mini, but I am also toying with the idea of selling my car and buying a Rover mini. Ths only thing that worries me is reliability? as I would be using it as an everyday runner it needs to be reliable, would I be better off getting an injected or just a carby model? Thanks for any advice.

Andy.

There is a small dealership called "Racecourse autos" I think in Dulwhich Hill on New Canterbury Road (just after the shop going towards town) that has sold a number of 1989 Rover minis. They own another dealership in Eastern Suburbs as well. They have none for sale now but the two I saw looked in reasonable condition. Sold for about $8k I think. Red and Blue.

Spoke to them todayand he said they have some 998 autos coming in soon. You can leave you name and they can try and source the car you want. They said Winter in Japan it is hard to source cars.

For what its worth he also said that due to the escalating rego costs for older cars in Japan the Minis are getting expensive. But then he was a used car dealer.

Also at Jap Auto Imports on Parra Rd Croydon opposite Maccas is a Navy Blue 1989 Rover Manual with a/c. The guy wants $12k. It has a white interior with those Cobra classic buckets. It looks in ok condition. They reckon it has done 39k but by the look of the seats its more like 139k. I told him he was dreaming on the price. I reckon you could bargain them done or get the front seats reupholstered first.
