With discs, there is much more weight transfer to the front, but line pressure to the back is still limited to the same as before. So, with less weight, rears can lock up = U lose control.
Fitting 5/8" rear wheel cylinders (Cooper S) instead of the stocko 3/4" ones fixes this problem, usually.:)

My advice is get the rears done at the same time...
that way you'll get the full effect of having discs.
otherwise you will have an ok pedal, but not much braking efficiency.

Rears are cheap...
p5095 wheel cylinders
1333 brake shoes.
use these part numbers at non mini shops

If the rear drums are worn, any decent brake shop can machine them to 1/32" or 1/16" oversize and supply exchange rebonded shoes radius ground to suit.
Don't use standard shoes with oversized drums- they will run out of adjustment before they are bedded in.

just got off the phone with him

disc brakes and everything needed to fit them cost $1400+$500 to have them reconditioned there+$250 to have them fitted there provided they don't need to re-do the brake lines, or something like that.

so that is $2150

i guess i'll ahve to talk to my mechanic and see what he can do for how much.

what exactly does go into reconditioning cooper s disc brakes?

For $1400 i would expect the brakes to be already rebuilt, brand new shiny ones are about 2k and even less if you shop around and second hand discs setups should be no more than half the new price ande if they need rebuilding totally should cost about $500 a set :D

I'd get those ones, ask your local mechanic how much for fitting... and you'll have some brand new S discs on your mini for under $2k

cant go past getting a new set from minisport.

I know people on here that have got 2nd handers and ended up costing as much as new ones..

and its really not much more to get the back brakes parts at the same time.. new spaced drums are only around 50 - 60 per side..

Umm just a quick one,
The rear shoes are not a 1333 like "someone" said, they are a 1332, the 1333 are front shoes (I am sure this was just a typo).... and also make sure that the brakes are on the correct way as there are 4 ways they go and only one is correct....If you need assistance i am sure somone on here has this info, or else we can give it to you.
Anyhows,
Catya round,
Andrew

i think you were reading Docs post about oversize linings after the drums are machined

"any decent brake shop can machine them to 1/32" or 1/16" oversize and supply exchange rebonded shoes radius ground to suit. " :D Thats imperial measurements for those to young to remember
